All branches of Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga region are conducting large-scale exercises to organize cooperation in the response to emergency situations in the electric grid complex. Units of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, regional branches of JSC System Operator of the Unified Energy System, representatives of local governments, and relevant agencies are involved in the events.
These exercises are an important element of the electric grid companies’ comprehensive preparation for the heating season. The training scenarios take into account various risks typical of the autumn and winter period: freezing rain, strong winds, snowfall, and sudden temperature changes.
According to the scenario, residents and socially significant facilities in several populated areas will be without power. Participants are tasked with demonstrating practical skills in quickly resolving massive technological disruptions caused by natural disasters, preventing failures from developing, and making decisions under time constraints.
Power engineers are practicing actions to restore the power grid infrastructure, including connecting backup power sources, replacing power poles, and bringing backup power lines online, as well as making consumer notifications.
The exercises include practicing interaction between dispatch and operating personnel in difficult weather conditions, joint actions with units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, government agencies, and local governments, and testing communication and operational information channels.
The exercises were completed at 17 of the 20 branches of Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga region, with all assigned tasks completed within the specified timeframe. The high level of the personnel preparedness for rapid response to emergency situations and the effectiveness of interdepartmental cooperation were confirmed.
“Our goal is to be prepared for any challenge. Interdepartmental exercises are not a formality, but a crucial element of systematic training. They allow us to test the readiness and availability of personnel, equipment, and backup power sources, and, most importantly, to practice cooperation with the Ministry of Emergency Situations, regional authorities, and all services responsible for the speed of response to severe weather and other emergencies. The results of the exercises demonstrate that our specialists are working in a coordinated and effective manner to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers,” noted Boris Ebzeev, General Director of Rosseti Centre, PJSC - managing organization of Rosseti Centre and Volga region, PJSC.
