13 May 2020

Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region, together with municipalities, are actively working to modernize street lighting systems in settlements of the regions of their activity. Since the beginning of this year, power engineers have carried out work on replacement and installation of over 3.5 thousand street lighting fixtures in more than 200 settlements of 20 constituent entities of the Russian Federation.

In total, during 2020, according to preliminary plans, the power engineers will replace and install over 45 thousand new street lighting fixtures. This work will cover about 300 settlements of the regions of Central Russia and the Volga Region.

In 2019, the power engineers of the companies Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region provided high-quality street lighting for residents of more than 200 settlements. As part of the work, over 20 thousand modern street lighting fixtures were replaced and installed. The work was carried out by qualified specialists in compliance with the required deadlines and the use of modern technical means. During them, obsolete incandescent and mercury lamps were replaced by modern, LED ones. New cable lines were constructed on previously unlit streets using self-supporting insulated wire (SIW), which has enhanced safety characteristics. In addition, as part of the modernization, electricity metering and street lighting control systems were implemented, allowing not only to control electricity consumption, but also to quickly control street lighting and draw up flexible schedules for automatically turning on the lights at nightfall.

Significant amount of work in this direction was done in the Belgorod region: 3,275 lighting fixtures were replaced here and 4,362 light points were additionally mounted, 800 of which are equipped with special individual control units with the possibility of dimming the light flux. For the first time such an energy system was used on the territory of the “Smart Quarter” in the city of Belgorod. The “Smart Quarter” project is being implemented jointly with the city administration and provides for the construction of an intelligent urban environment in the territory of one of residential districts. In the pilot zone, where about 11 thousand people live, specialists of the Belgorod branch of Rosseti Centre completely modernized the outdoor lighting network, replacing about 500 lighting fixtures with LED ones and setting up an individual control system for each of them. All outdoor lighting facilities are included in a single geographic information system with a map on the city.

“The measures we are implementing to modernize, repair and maintain street lighting systems are primarily aimed at ensuring the comfort and safety of residents of 20 regions of the country. In addition, through the use of modern energy-efficient technologies and solutions, they will reduce electricity consumption, improve the lighting of settlements, reduce municipalities’ costs to pay for electricity consumed by street lighting fixtures,” stressed General Director of Rosseti Centre - the managing organization of Rosseti Centre and Volga Region Igor Makovskiy.
