Rosseti Centre takes an active part in creating a “smart” urban environment in the Belgorod region

17 September 2019

Within the framework of the Digital Transformation Concept, Rosseti Centre is participating in the implementation of the “Smart Quarter” project in Belgorod. It was developed as part of the regional project “Smart City of Belgorod”, the national project “Housing and Urban Environment” and the national program “Digital Economy” and provides for the construction in the regional centre of a “smart” urban environment on the territory of Kharkov Mountain, limited by Kostyukov, Akademicheskaya Streets and Kharkov Lane.

In the pilot zone, where about 11 thousand people live, specialists of the Belgorod branch of Rosseti Centre plan to construct a cluster of smart grids that meet the main directions of Rosseti’s Digital Transformation 2030 Concept. In particular, a 6 kV digital distribution point and nine transformer substations equipped with telemechanics and communication devices providing remote control of the main equipment parameters and control of switching devices will appear here. All facilities of the smart quarter will be equipped with an intelligent electricity metering system, and consumers with smart commercial metering devices.

In addition, the power engineers are completely modernizing the outdoor lighting network, replacing about 500 lamps with LED ones and setting up an individual control system for each of them. All electric power and outdoor lighting facilities will be included in a single geographic information system with the city map.

A significant part of the “smart quarter” will be the territory of the Belgorod State Technological University named after V.G. Shukhov, on the basis of whose engineering systems remote metering of gas and water will be implemented. In addition, in the “smart” quarter there will be a charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, for mobile devices, free WI-FI, an information and navigation media screen, a weather station with remote data transmission, video surveillance, an emergency button for calling emergency services, an intelligent vehicle pass system with license plate recognition, an emergency warning system, a smart pedestrian crossing, holographic traffic lights and other innovations. It is planned to fully complete the project by the end of 2019.
