Rosseti Centre - the managing organization of Rosseti Centre and Volga Region installed the first transformer at the “Airport” digital substation in the Udmurt Republic

28 August 2019

Rosseti Centre - the managing organization of Rosseti Centre and Volga Region continues to implement a project to create the first digital substation in the Udmurt Republic based on the 35/6 kV “Airport” substation. Currently, power engineers have completed an important phase of the project, in which they replaced one of two power transformers.

In accordance with the measures of the investment program, a total of two power transformers will be replaced at the “Airport” substation; as a result, the total capacity of the energy facility will increase from 8 to 12.6 MVA. Instead of obsolete equipment, the substation will be equipped with vacuum reclosers, remote control disconnectors, upgraded relay protection and automation devices that will allow to remotely control the equipment, switch backup lines and quickly isolate faulty sections of power lines. Thus, all data on parameters of the equipment, telemetry, telecontrol and alarm will be transmitted via digital data transmission channels to the Grid Control Centre of the branch, where the dispatcher will provide remote control of switching devices and equipment.

“This is another step towards the digitalization of the republic’s electric grid complex to increase its reliability and efficiency. All technological digital solutions used at the “Airport” substation comply with the requirements for implementing the digital grid construction strategy in Russia developed and implemented by PJSC Rosseti,” stressed General Director of Rosseti Centre - the managing organization of Rosseti Centre and Volga Region Igor Makovskiy. “In combination with technologies used in the implementation of the Digital Distribution Zone project and the modernization of the Izhevsk city control centre, the creation of the “Airport” digital substation will significantly enhance the effect of the digital transformation of the electric grid complex, and obtain a significant effect felt by end customers.

The implementation of digital technologies at the substation will significantly improve the quality of power supply to consumers in Zavyalovsky district, part of the city of Izhevsk and the airport - the air transport hub of Udmurtia. The amount of investments in the digital substation will amount to 77.8 million rubles. It is planned to put the facility into operation in October 2020.

Also, as part of the implementation of the first stage of the digital transformation concept, work is continuing on the transfer to digital technologies of the Zavyalovsky and Izhevsky Distribution Zones, which will allow to improve the quality and reliability of power supply to settlements of the most actively developing, from the point of view of energy consumption, district of the republic; will provide an opportunity to quickly respond to any emergency situations, avoiding long-term restrictions on power supply to consumers. This will be achieved through the implementation of distributed automation technology, which allows to locate and isolate only faulty sections of the grid, leaving as many as possible intact sections for customers.
