Igor Makovskiy: “The branch “Ivenergo” has a high potential that needs to be effectively increased, actively applying digital technologies”

3 December 2018

General Director of IDGC of Centre - the managing organization of IDGC of Centre and Volga Region Igor Makovskiy evaluated the operation of the power grid complex in the Ivanovo region.

During his working visit to the Ivanovo region, General Director of IDGC of Centre - the managing organization of IDGC of Centre and Volga Region Igor Makovskiy visited Shuysky Distribution Zone, providing electricity to about 22,000 residents of the region, large agro-industrial enterprises and agricultural production cooperatives. The head of the company examined the dispatch centre of the Distribution Zone, checked the correspondence of the records in the operational log with the “Emergency” Software.

Igor Makovskiy also examined the 110 kV “Shuya-2” substation (SS). In 2017, during the implementation of an investment project at the substation, reconstruction was carried out with installation of a device for compensating capacitive currents and replacing an outdated oil switch with a more modern, environmentally friendly one. The substation provides electricity to consumers in the town of Shuya, the surrounding area, and feeds a number of large industrial enterprises, including “Aquarius”, a leading Russian developer, manufacturer and supplier of computer equipment and IT solutions for government and corporate customers.

The head of the company familiarized himself with the work of the Grid Control Centre (GCC) of Ivenergo, from which the operational management of the power grid complex of the Ivanovo region is carried out. Last year, the GCC was completely modernized. Within the framework of the reconstruction, a new control panel was installed with application of a mnemonic diagram of the regional power system. The total area of the scheme was more than 65 square metres. The panel is equipped with electronics for receiving and displaying over 6,000 signals from remote control systems, which allows dispatchers to control the electric grid operation online: promptly take emergency response measures, remove equipment for repair, and create a more reliable operational circuit for power supply to consumers based on data analysis. Additionally, a video wall with an area of 3.4 square metres is built in to the panel for displaying auxiliary analytical information.

Igor Makovskiy highly appreciated the capabilities of the Grid Control Centre, which makes it possible to significantly improve the quality of the operational and technological management of the company’s power grids and the efficiency of personnel decision-making in emergency situations.

During the visit, the head of the company visited the Ivanovo training centre "Energetik", in which specialists from the energy sector undergo training and advanced training. General Director got acquainted with the material and technical base of the educational organization, examined its training and computer training classrooms. Igor Makovskiy stressed the importance of deepening and improving the existing professional knowledge of power engineers to reduce the risk of erroneous actions.

During the meeting with Ivenergo’s employees, Igor Makovskiy noted that currently IDGC of Centre and IDGC of Centre and Volga Region, in accordance with the requirements of PJSC ROSSETI, have already begun the development of full-scale implementation of digital technologies and control systems. Evaluating the capabilities of Ivanovsky Distribution Zone as a platform for the implementation of a pilot project on digitalization, the head of the company emphasized the need to take into account two points: the possibility of creating a single powerful centre and the process of psychological adaptation of personnel to new approaches in operating the grid complex.

Giving a final assessment of the state of affairs at Ivenergo, Igor Makovskiy stressed that the branch has a high potential that needs to be effectively increased by actively applying digital technologies, which can significantly improve performance in all areas of activity and solve priority tasks.
