Igor Makovskiy completes checking the readiness of the electric grid complex of the regions of the Central Federal District and Volga Federal District to implement digitalization projects

30 November 2018

For a month and a half, the head of the company has already made working visits in most regions of IDGC of Centre and IDGC of Centre and Volga Region (included in ROSSETI’s Group, operating in 20 regions of the Central and Volga Federal Districts), personally checking the readiness of the power grid infrastructure for implementation of digital technologies and control systems for the power grid complex.

During the business trips, the head of IDGC of Centre - the managing organization of IDGC of Centre and Volga Region presented the digitalization projects to the heads of regions, having received a positive assessment from them. Thus, during the recent meeting of Governor of the Yaroslavl region Dmitry Mironov with Igor Makovskiy, agreement was reached on signing a contract on pilot territories where the projects on digitalization of electric grids will be implemented first. The head of the Orel region Andrey Klychkov showed willingness to support initiatives proposed by IDGC of Centre at the regional level. And Governor of the Smolensk region Alexey Ostrovsky instructed his subordinates to provide the necessary assistance to IDGC of Centre in implementing projects in the region aimed at improving the operational and technological management of distribution grids of 35 kV and above.

Please, be reminded that the digitalization projects of IDGC of Centre and IDGC of Centre and Volga Region are based on the successful experience of another subsidiary of ROSSETI, JSC “Yantarenergo”, where the Digital Distribution Zone project was implemented, based on a whole set of technologies and digital grid elements. Currently, two similar projects are under development: one digital Distribution Zone will be created in Kalininsky Distribution Zone of IDGC of Centre’s branch “Tverenergo”, and the other in Arzamassky Distribution Zone of IDGC of Centre and Volga Region’s branch “Nizhnovenergo”. In addition, eleven 35-110 kV digital substations will be constructed in seven regions of operations using the protocols of the IEC 61850 standard as part of the integration of the automated process control system. Eight such power facilities will be constructed in IDGC of Centre’s branches “Belgorodenergo”, “Lipetskenergo”, “Tverenergo”, “Kostromaenergo”, “Voronezhenergo”, three more - in IDGC of Centre and Volga Region’s branches “Udmurtenergo” and “Nizhnovenergo”. Other projects are also being implemented. In the future, they will cover all 20 regions of IDGC’s operations.

In addition to the implementation of relevant technologies and infrastructure elements, the number of priority steps for further digitalization of the electric grid complex of the two companies will include the introduction of a gradation of management entities (branches and Distribution Zones) in terms of the implementation of digital technologies, as well as relevant benchmarks and digitalization rating.

According to General Director of IDGC of Centre - the managing organization of IDGC of Centre and Volga Region Igor Makovskiy, the power engineers are approaching the implementation of digitalization projects globally, not limited to purely applied goals and objectives solved within the framework of the primary activity. “It is about creating a full-fledged universal infrastructure digital platform. Its main components, in addition to digitalization of the electric grid complex, are development of appropriate information and communication infrastructure, digitalization of business processes, development of innovation and engineering activities, as well as development of human capital and formation of a “digital generation” that will organically feel in a digital ecosystem.” he stressed.

The implementation of this approach will allow IDGC of Centre and IDGC of Centre and Volga Region to expand the range of its services through fundamentally new activities.
