Branch “Marienergo” is the most “digital” among branches of IDGC of Centre and Volga Region

11 November 2018

This was stated by General Director of IDGC of Centre - the managing organization of IDGC of Centre and Volga Region Igor Makovskiy during his working visit to regions of the company’s service area.

During his visit to the Republic of Mari El, the Head of the company checked the operation of the electric grid complex of the branch “Marienergo”. Igor Makovskiy got acquainted with the experience of operating high-voltage supply centres on the example of the 110 kV substation “Akashevo”, commissioned in 1975, examined the working conditions of the Mari power engineers, provision with specialized vehicles and equipment.

The next points of the visit were Sovetsky and Semenovsky Distribution Zones - one of the oldest Distribution Zones of the region, moreover, located in close proximity to the capital of the Republic of Mari El. The Head of the company highly appreciated their technical equipment: for example, for efficient operation the remote control of the switches was brought to the control room of Semenovsky Distribution Zone, using modern “Iset” digital process control systems via fiber-optic communication channels using the modern IEC-104 protocol, which allows the dispatcher from his workplace not only to control, collect and process technical information, but also to manage energy equipment, make necessary switching, redistribute load and automatically restore power supply to consumers, practically eliminates losses, by times increases observability and rapid response to events in the grid.

The Head of the company visited the production department of Yoshkar-Ola Distribution Zone, providing electricity to over 182,000 residents of the republic, inspected the new ultra-modern embankment Brugge - a unique place that has become the hallmark of Yoshkar-Ola, and appreciated the implementation of the project for its power supply. It operates a smart grid, the construction of which used the most promising technical solutions and modern equipment. This is a project of digitalization of grids in the part of remote control and automation of power equipment with an electricity metering system with remote data collection and transmission, which has begun implementing in Marienergo since 2011.

In the executive office of the branch, Igor Makovskiy inspected the work of the Customer Service Centre, got acquainted with the work of the Grid Control Centre, assessed the functioning of automated control systems for the grid complex and held an extended meeting with the branch’s management and chiefs of Distribution Zones.

One of the important issues was the discussion of production programs aimed at ensuring the priority areas of operation of the electric grid complex - high-quality and reliable power supply to consumers of the Republic of Mari El, and drawing up plans for the long term. The Head of the company in an informal dialogue with the management of the branch and the heads of the Production Bases and the Distribution Zones positively assessed the state of the electric grid complex of the Republic of Mari El and noted a good potential for development. “Digitalization is literally a higher quality signal transmission to ensure the reliability of power supply,” said Igor Makovskiy. General Director of the company noted that complex automation and digitalization of the electric grid will allow not only to respond to violations, but also to predict them.

At present, IDGC of Centre, in accordance with the requirements of PJSC ROSSETI, has begun developing a program for the full-scale implementation of digital technologies and control systems. The Head set the task in the near future to ensure one hundred percent observability and controllability of 35-110 kV electric grids, automate the 6-10 kV distribution grid, which feeds the maximum number of consumers, implement a multi-level smart metering to reach a qualitatively new level of power supply in the region.

At the end of the visit, Igor Makovskiy, considering the tasks facing Marienergo, identified as key priorities the further construction of the grid on a digital basis, improving the manageability of grid infrastructure facilities, the reliability of overhead power lines, a significant reduction in failure rates, consolidating the existing results in financial and economic activities and further reduction of electricity losses in the grids of the region to achieve the planned indicators.

The result of the working trip of General Director to the branch “Marienergo” will be the development of a long-term program for development of the power grid complex of the republic and the development of the branch in accordance with the innovation principle using modern technologies and taking into account the experience of other power systems.
