Journalists of Dagestan saw poles, self-supporting insulated wire and "smart" meters installed

26 July 2018

IDGC of North Caucasus organized a tour for journalists to those facilities where work is underway to modernize grids within the framework of the All-Russian exercises of power engineers of the Rosseti group of companies in the territory of the Republic of Dagestan.

Correspondents and operators of RGVK "Dagestan", NNT "Dagestan", and the republican newspaper "Dagestan Youth" went to Karabudakhkentsky district, which is characterized by frequent power failures and voltage drops in the grids.

Here, the largest grouping of all the subsidiaries of Rosseti, IDGC of Centre and IDGC of Centre and Volga Region, is involved in the reconstruction of the grids conducted within the framework of the exercises. In different parts of the district centre of Karabudakhkent, three crews and five vehicles are working simultaneously.

At 35-degree heat at a ten-metre height in full outfit - in arc-resistant suits, helmets, hung with buddy systems - specialists change up to 10 poles per day and 800 m of bare wire to self-supporting insulated wire. Only after this, the crew for installation of the split system rises to the height.

As explained by Pavel Bratukhin, Chief Engineer of the Production Department of IDGC of Centre and Volga Region, who arrived in Dagestan from Udmurtia, when the equipment is energized, residents will be given out electronic units, which will reflect readings of the electricity meter. The need to install the usual meters on the wall of the house will finally disappear. And new technologies and equipment will allow power engineers to remotely take readings of meters, just passing near poles with split systems installed on them. But most importantly, you will not have to knock at home and bother people. But that’s not all: at the transformer points, they will install Data Acquisition and Transmission Devices, which will allow to connect the smart meters to one system and transmit the data to the central server of IDGC of North Caucasus.

"229 vehicles are working in Karabudakhkentsky district, more than 580 of our power engineers - specialists from different directions, from installation of power lines to IT technologies - those who are engaged in setting up a system for metering, collecting and transmitting data. Specialists in designing grids, in terms of capital construction, logisticians are involved," explains Alexander Pilyugin, First Deputy General Director - Chief Engineer of IDGC of Centre, IDGC of Centre and Volga Region. "We understand all the objective and subjective reasons that led to the current situation in Dagestan with the power grid complex. But it is unacceptable that consumers of the 21st century (no matter where they live - in Tambov, Kursk, or Karabudakhkentsky district of Dagestan) suffered from low voltage in grids, poor-quality power supply. And our specialists are simply burning with the desire, of course, with the support of local residents and together with employees of IDGC of North Caucasus, to use the given opportunity to improve the quality of life of local residents. This drive manifests itself at different levels - from electricians, ordinary specialists, a lot of suggestions are literally pouring in, how to improve, enhance the process. They offer to cover the work even those houses that are not included in the plan, to improve the quality of power supply there. And the people who live here, in turn, see this aspiration and are willing to help us. Relations with the residents are becoming stronger with each passing day, the experts are getting to know each other, constructive relations with the heads of the districts are being built - if this continues, then everything will necessarily turn out to be good and the quality of electricity supply will increase."

Before the trip to Dagestan, the power engineers were handed out the Memos, which gave brief recommendations, how to behave with the local population, so as not to offend, not to violate their national and religious traditions, because the power engineers work, including in those districts and villages where these traditions are particularly strong. Asked by journalists whether they were useful, Alexander Pilyugin answered frankly: "When tourists go abroad, to another country or to an unfamiliar region, they are also given a memo. A person should know the characteristics of a region in which he has never been in his life. We came here with good and, I must say, the attitude of the inhabitants of Dagestan to the power engineers is also very friendly. I even honestly asked my subordinates to politely refuse the invitations of residents to come into the house - if they come to visit everyone who invites them, and they will be treated by everyone who wants to treat them, there will simply have no time for work.

Unfortunately, not all the power engineers, accustomed to the cool climate of their regions, survive the July heat established in Dagestan. They, of course, are used to working in extreme conditions, but not in the heat, but in the cold. In order not to endanger people’s health, a regular physical examination is organized. The grouping of IDGC of Centre, IDGC of Centre and Volga Region before going to work is checked by six doctors at once. Sometimes, they temporarily suspended from work: you have high blood pressure today, and you have a rapid pulse. Several employees will have to be replaced by others for health reasons. The power engineers do not want to leave, but you cannot argue with the recommendations of doctors...

"The given exercises are a significant event, we waited for them, in advance schedules of work were prepared, in the district everyone knows about the holding of the events. The population has apprehended them even with some enthusiasm, because it is done for the common good," First Deputy Head of the municipal district Akhmed Khadzhiev explains to journalists. "I think that after completing all the planned work, problems associated with low voltage in the grids will be solved. Continuous power outages will be eliminated, losses will be reduced, and residents will regularly pay for consumed electricity."
