Employees and veterans of the Kursk branch of IDGC of Centre honoured the memory of the heroes of the Battle on the Kursk Bulge

23 August, employees and veterans of IDGC of Centre – Kurskenergo division took part in commemorative events dedicated to the 74th anniversary of the victory of the Red Army in the Battle of Kursk - one of the key battles of the Great Patriotic War. They passed in different parts of the Kursk region.

In the regional centre the power engineers participated in the solemn ceremony of laying flowers to the Eternal Fire at the Memorial Complex "In memory of the fallen in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945". "We remember with deepest gratitude the heroes of the battle on the Fiery Bulge, the victory in which predetermined the whole course of the war. A deep bow to all who accomplished this soldier’s feat!" stressed Alexander Rudnevsky, Deputy General Director of IDGC of Centre – Kurskenergo division director.

In Medvensky Distribution Zone Kurskenergo’s employees laid flowers at the monument to the legendary pilot, three times Hero of the Soviet Union Ivan Kozhedub. In Oboyansky district - to the mass grave in the village of Streletskoye. Memorable events were accompanied by a minute of silence in honour of the Soviet soldiers who committed an immortal feat on the Kursk land.

The Battle of Kursk (also known as the Battle of the Kursk Bulge) lasted 50 days. In terms of its scale, its forces and means, its results and military and political consequences, it became one of the key battles of the Great Patriotic War. As a result of it, the strategic initiative in the war finally passed to the Red Army.

Kursk power engineers contributed to the outcome of the battle. Thus, workers of the Central Power Plant of the city of Kursk during the offensive operation of the Red Army maintained it in working order, which allowed continuous power supply of the railway junction, the repair base of armoured vehicles and numerous military hospitals in the frontline city.
