IDGC of Centre continues to prepare for a fire-dangerous period

22 April 2015

IDGC of Centre continues preparations for the fire-dangerous period. Power engineers are implementing in the regions of their service area a plan of mandatory and optional measures to ensure reliable and stable operation of the power grid complex, higher level of fire protection of power facilities and prevention of emergency situations. Most of them should be completed by the end of last week.

Employees of the company's core business units constantly monitor the fire situation. This work is done in close cooperation with the territorial units of the Russian Emergencies Ministry and Hydrometeorology, state authorities and local self-government.

Forces of fire and technical commissions of structural subdivisions of branches hold unscheduled check of the status of fire safety of assigned facilities and inspection of power equipment. Particular attention is paid to the service of outdoor and indoor switchgear, warehouses of oils, accessory buildings and structures, workshops, as well as substations and protected areas of overhead power lines. Facilities are also checked for their staffing with fire extinguishing agents.

In order to prevent fires in the power grid facilities there is work done to clear and extend ROWs of overhead power lines (Conductors). Fire break plowing is made for 35-110 kV substations and digging for wooden poles of overhead lines to create around them shelterbelts.

All branches of IDGC of Centre have planned to conduct joint trainings and exercises with the participation of the executive authorities of the Russian Federation, territorial divisions of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, local authorities and representatives of other organizations and electricity entities to simulate interaction while eliminating an emergency with the threat of power failure during periods of high temperatures. According to their results, plans of joint actions in case of such situations will be developed.

Large amount of work is also provided for training the company's employees for the fire-dangerous period. Specialized professionals hold targeted briefings for the production staff on the rules of fire safety and actions in case of fire.

In total, operational switching in connection with fires may involve 1,407 first responding and restoration crews of 7,803 people and 2,289 off-road and special vehicles and 90 mobile crews of 528 people and 167 vehicles.

In addition, the power engineers conduct active outreach to the public, encouraging citizens to be extremely cautious in the fire-hazardous period, avoiding any emergencies.

Full implementation of fire protection measures significantly reduces the risk of fires and economic damage caused by them. Therefore, IDGC of Centre is taking all possible measures that will minimize the risk of fire at power facilities and will provide reliable and uninterrupted power supply to consumers.
