Igor Makovskiy: more than a thousand crews of Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region are ready to promptly eliminate faults in grids

9 September 2020

Preparations for the passage of the autumn-winter maximum of the period (AWP) at Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region have entered the final phase. The companies are finishing the implementation of the main measures of the repair program and completing the emergency reserve and continue to improve the system of operational and technical management of power grid facilities.

The repair program is one of the key measures for the power engineers to prepare for winter. Serviceability of power grid equipment is the most important factor in trouble-free operation during cold weather, when the load on the grid increases significantly. The specialists from Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region have already completed the bulk of the work. More than 7.8 thousand switching devices of 6-110 kV and 56 power transformers of 35-110 kV (95% and 98% to the plan of the year), about 10.5 thousand transformer substations with a voltage of 0.4-10 kV and more than 37.5 thousand km of 0.4-110 kV overhead and cable power lines (86% and 80% of the total volume of the annual program) have been repaired. To improve the reliability of the operation of overhead power lines, 27 thousand hectares of routes along overhead power lines were cleared of trees and shrubs (86% of the annual plan).

The implementation of measures to improve the operational and technological management of power grid infrastructure facilities continues, which allows, in particular, to provide a more rapid response to technological violations. 894 first responding field crews and 171 emergency recovery crews of increased mobility formed in branches of Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region are ready to eliminate them. High mobility crews are ready at any time to go to eliminate an emergency in any region of Russia, they are staffed with highly qualified specialists who have undergone additional training, as well as all necessary equipment and specialized vehicles.

Emergency training for operating personnel also plays an important role in ensuring a stable passage of winter. In 2020, to practice emergency response skills in the structural divisions of Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region, it is planned to conduct 13,612 trainings with operating personnel, including 20 joint comprehensive exercises with regional departments of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia and local authorities.

The company’s emergency reserve is currently 99.4% full. The fleet of reserve power supply sources includes 2,009 mobile and stationary diesel generator sets with a total capacity of 63.5 MW, as well as 433 high-passable and specialized vehicles. All the vehicles have already passed maintenance and are ready to work.

“Despite the fact that this year the preparation for the AWP is complicated by external factors, we carry out all the activities planned within the framework of it in a timely manner and in full, and for a number of key indicators we even achieve overfulfillment. High professional readiness of our personnel, outstripping the pace of work while maintaining its quality are the most important condition for reliable power supply to 20 regions of the country during the autumn-winter peak load period,” stressed Igor Makovskiy, General Director of Rosseti Centre - the managing organization of Rosseti Centre and Volga Region.

Statistics of recent years testify to the fact that the energy companies are steadily improving the quality and efficiency of preparation. Thus, in the period of the autumn and winter period of 2019-2020, Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region reduced the number of technological disturbances in grids of all voltage classes by 25% compared to the 2018-2019 season. The average duration of technological violations decreased by 28% compared to the same period last year, and their average frequency by 20%.
