The International Forum “Power Grids” will discuss the development prospects of the market for energy storage systems

25 November 2019

On 4 December, in Moscow, at the International Forum “Power Grids”, a panel discussion will be held on “Storage systems in an era of changing the industry development paradigm”.

The event will be attended by Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Yuri Manevich, First Deputy General Director - Chief Engineer of Rosseti Centre Alexander Pilyugin, General Manager of Saft LLC David Masgrangeas, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of RUSNANO Management Company LLC Yuri Udaltsov, Executive Director of the Institute of Arctic Technologies of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) Yuri Vasiliev, General Director of Hevel Retail LLC Nikolay Popov.

Storage systems are an important part of the electric power industry of the new technological cycle. Breakthrough technologies can significantly increase energy efficiency and open up new business opportunities and sustainable development of the industry, as well as related areas.

Today, the market for energy storage systems is developing rapidly and is conditionally divided into three segments: home, business and grid solutions. Modern technologies, increased storage volumes of energy and increasing level of security open up new opportunities for the power system.

“The development of energy storage systems can significantly increase the efficiency of the electricity industry, and ensure reliable and uninterrupted power supply to consumers. For example, generation can optimize equipment operating modes, distribution grids - load of power centres, and consumers - energy consumption, while maintaining it for future use. Today, many countries are implementing pilot projects on the use of energy storage systems in electric grids. In Russia, the market for energy storage systems is being formed - new technologies are being developed,” Yuri Manevich commented on the prospects for using such systems.

Participants in the panel discussion will discuss what place the use of energy storage systems in electric grids should take, what are the potential advantages and possible problems of their use, as well as whether new technologies can change the central energy supply system.

The International Forum “Power Grids” (PGIF) is a large-scale industry event in the electric power industry, aimed at discussing and solving the priority tasks of digital transformation of the electric grid complex, organized by Rosseti.

The prerequisites for holding the forum are laid down in Decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin No. 204 of 7 May 2018 “On National Goals and Strategic Tasks of the Development of the Russian Federation until 2024”. The document sets the task of transforming priority sectors of the economy, including energy infrastructure, through the implementation of digital technologies and platform solutions. The Doctrine of the Energy Security of the Russian Federation, approved by the President of the Russian Federation on 14 May 2019, became a logical development of the Decree and identified strategic objectives for ensuring the energy security of the state.

In 2018, the PGIF business events were honoured by 330 industry experts, 15,000 participants, 49 partner companies and more than 130 media representatives. The exhibition was attended by 402 exhibitors from 27 countries - manufacturers of high-tech equipment, domestic and foreign developers, innovative companies and startups.
