Digitalization in the power grid complex to increase the reliability of power supply and reduce operating costs

26 April 2019

A meeting of teachers and students with Acting First Deputy General Director of IDGC of Centre Vitaly Akulichev, organized under the auspices of the Department of Corporate Finance and Corporate Governance, was held at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation.

The meeting of the representative of the largest power grid company of the country gathered a full audience, and the meeting itself turned out to be informative not only for students, but also for the university professors.

During his speech, Vitaly Akulichev spoke about the current state and prospects for the development of the electric grid complex in Russia, including future changes in the legislation on the electric power industry related to the installation of smart metering devices and the development of renewable energy sources (RES).

In addition, the speaker touched upon the topic of the so-called demand-side management aggregators - organizations that consolidate the ability of retail consumers to change their consumption and convert it into the possibility of reducing the cost of electricity purchased in the wholesale electricity (capacity) market.

The main attention of First Deputy General Director of IDGC of Centre in his speech was paid to the prerequisites for the development of the concept of digital transformation of PJSC ROSSETI, as well as to the tasks facing the power grid complex and the strategy for their achievement.

As Vitaly Akulichev said, the measures being implemented and the new technologies being introduced within the framework of the digital transformation in IDGC of Centre and IDGC of Centre and Volga Region will significantly improve reliability of power supply, reduce commercial electricity losses in power grids and operating costs of maintaining the power grid.

At the same time, the key thing in the first stage is a project to create a unified grid control centre, and the creation of digital substations and digital Distribution Zones are an important element in ensuring intelligent metering and monitoring of the grid parameters, including for the purpose of prompt diagnosis of operation of power grids.

At the end of the presentation, the meeting participants discussed the prospects for cooperation between the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation and IDGC of Centre in the field of educational and research projects.

As Marina Fedotova, the head of the Corporate Finance and Corporate Governance Department, noted, such meetings with practitioners not only help increase the efficiency of the educational process, but also are a driver for increasing the level of trust and understanding between science and business.
