Power engineers of IDGC of Centre and IDGC of Centre and Volga Region supported the global campaign “Earth Hour”

1 April 2019

Employees of IDGC of Centre and IDGC of Centre and Volga Region supported the Earth Hour global campaign, which took place last Saturday (30 March 2019 from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm), turning off the external illumination on the buildings of the branch’s offices and strengthening control over the operation of the power grid complex and changes in weather conditions in the regions.

Earth Hour is an international action in which the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) calls for turning off the lights for one hour to demonstrate a caring attitude toward the future of the planet. At the same time, the lights of the most famous buildings and monuments of the world go out. Voluntary mass power outages by consumers for one hour cannot significantly affect the activities of the distribution grid complex, however, experts of energy companies strenuously monitored the level of energy consumption and the operation of power facilities.

“Every year IDGC of Centre and IDGC of Centre and Volga Region support this international initiative, which symbolizes the solidarity of the inhabitants of the planet in solving the problems of resource saving. Everyone can join the action and contribute to the preservation of nature and the energy resources of the planet!” explains Igor Makovskiy, General Director of IDGC of Centre - the managing organization of IDGC of Centre and Volga Region.

Supporting the environmental initiative of the population, recalling the need for rational use of the resources of the planet, the employees of the branches and executive offices of the companies ensured uninterrupted and high-quality operation of the power grid. During the campaign, responsible persons from among the technical managers of all branches were set on duty.

Earth Hour is the most massive environmental event on the planet. In 2019, it was held for the 13th time. Every year more than 2 billion people around the world in 188 countries take part in it, the lights of more than 18,000 architectural monuments go out. The purpose of Earth Hour is not to save electricity. This action is a symbol of respect for nature. From year to year, this event helps draw attention to the need for a sustainable attitude to the world around us. The theme of the Russian Hour of Earth 2019 - “Answer for nature!” Forests, rivers and rare animals cannot tell about their problems, and even more so solve them, this is only possible for man.
