Repairs, reserves, improvement of professional skills: IDGC of Centre is preparing for the cold season

12 September 2018

Preparation for the passage of the autumn-winter period peak entered the final phase in IDGC of Centre. The company is completing the implementation of the main activities of the repair program and restocking the emergency reserve and continues to improve the system of operational and technical management of power grid facilities.

The repair program is one of the key measures for the power company for the winter: the serviceability of the electric grid equipment is the most important factor for ensuring its trouble-free operation during the cold weather, when loads in the grids increase significantly. The main scope of work of IDGC of Centre has already been fulfilled. The company’s specialists repaired 3,072 switching devices of 6-110 kV (94.1% to the plan of the year), 48 power transformers of 35-110 kV (111.6% to the plan of the year), repaired 3,781 transformer substations of 0.4-10 kV (93.4% to the plan of the year) and about 12.7 thousand km of 0.4-110 kV overhead and cable lines (87.4% of the total volume of the annual program).

Based on the experience of the coldest months in recent years, when preparing for the current autumn-winter period IDGC of the Centre places a special emphasis on improving the reliability of operation of overhead power lines (Conductors). An important component of this work is clearing of ROWs of power lines from woody and shrubby vegetation. In 2018, the company planned to clear 11,3 thousand hectares of ROWs of overhead power lines. The bulk of the work has also been completed.

The implementation of measures to improve operational and technological management of electric grid infrastructure facilities is continuing, which, in particular, allows for more rapid response to technological violations. 540 first responding mobile crews and 92 emergency recovery crews of increased mobility, formed in branches of IDGC of Centre, are ready to eliminate them. The crews of increased mobility are ready at any time to go to liquidate an emergency situation in any region of Russia, they are staffed by highly qualified specialists who have received additional training, as well as all necessary equipment and specialized vehicles.

Emergency response training of operational personnel plays an essential role in ensuring stable passage of the coming winter. In 2018, more than 16,000 exercises with operational personnel, including 11 joint integrated exercises with the regional departments of the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia and local government bodies, are planned to be carried out in structural subdivisions of IDGC of Centre to develop skills for liquidation of emergencies.

The company’s emergency reserve is currently 99.5% complete. The fleet of reserve power supply sources includes 602 mobile and stationary diesel-generator sets, with a total capacity of 25.14 MW, as well as 1,261 units of high-performance and specialized vehicles. All equipment has already been maintained and is ready for operation during the autumn-winter period.

The high degree of readiness of the personnel and facilities of the grid infrastructure of IDGC of Centre, timely and complete implementation of all preparatory measures are the guarantee of reliable power supply to the regions of the company’s activities (11 subjects of the Central Federal District) during the autumn-winter maximum of loads, provides prompt response and elimination of consequences of possible emergency situations. The fact that this work is carried out in IDGC of Centre qualitatively, is shown by the statistics: following the results of the autumn-winter period of 2017-2018, IDGC of Centre decreased the specific failure rate in the company’s grids by 33% compared to the same period last year. The average duration of power interruptions was reduced by 34%.
