IDGC of Centre reminds: fishing in protected areas of power lines is dangerous for life and health

18 May 2018

In connection with the warm weather in regions of Central Russia and the onset of the summer fishing season, IDGC of Centre reminds fishermen of the need to comply with the electrical safety rules in the guard zones of power lines.

It is strictly prohibited to fish under the warning signs "Caution! High voltage", "Caution! High voltage. Danger! Keep out!" and "Fishing in the guard zone of overhead lines is prohibited!".

Fishing under live power lines is dangerous for life! The distance from the ground to wires of a power line is 6-7 metres, and the length of the fishing rod reaches 7 metres. On the pond, there are enough other places to make fishing.

Be careful when moving under power line wires. It is necessary to pre-fold rods to avoid accidental contact with the wires or approaching an unacceptably close (less than 1 metre) distance to overhead power lines with a voltage of up to 110 kV.

Modern rods are made of carbon fiber - a material that is the conductor of electric current. Increased humidity within the boundaries of the reservoir, a wet line or rod create a risk of electric shock, touching or even approaching the rod to the wires of the energized power line will inevitably result in fatal injury.

When buying a fishing rod, pay attention to the inscriptions on the rod body, which indicates the danger of fishing under power lines and during a thunderstorm. If you gave a fishing rod to the child as a gift, be sure to explain to him the rules of conduct under power lines, tell him for sure about the dangerous electric current and why he must not use the rod during a thunderstorm and when moving under the wires.

If there is a saggy or torn wire that has fallen to the ground, open doors of electrical installations, and damaged poles, in no case you can approach the damaged wires closer than 8 metres and penetrate inside electrical installations. Immediately report this by calling the direct line of IDGC of Centre at 8-800-50-50-115 (free of charge) or to the nearest Distribution Zone.

When going fishing, be careful and take care of your life!
