Power engineers and residents of the Tver region experienced a second wave of power outages

5 August 2017

Electric grid facilities in the western and north-western districts of the Tver region, restored by power engineers of IDGC of Centre after serious emergency damage, again fell under the impact of the elements. This provoked a second wave of violations in the electricity supply of consumers. The specialists of the electric grid company continue round-the-clock emergency and restoration work in the region and plan to supply all large settlements of the Tver region today by 06.00 p.m.

Yesterday, as of 2:00 p.m., IDGC of Centre’s power engineers restored the normal power supply scheme (including using backup lines) of Nelidovsky, Andreapolsky, Toropetsky, Torzhoksky, Penovsky, Ostashkovsky and other districts badly affected by the storm that struck the Upper Volga Region on 2 August. Having provided power to the supply centres, the company’s specialists started repairing the sections of the power transmission lines temporarily isolated from the regular circuits. At that moment, an unfavorable atmospheric front again came to the Tver region, accompanied by a strong gusty wind and torrential rains, provoking a second wave of power outages.

The situation in the west of the region was complicated by the fact that the power grid complex, although functioning, providing electricity to consumers, but was not completely restored after a large amount of damage. Despite this, on the night of 4 to 5 August, the power engineers, who had been working around the clock for two days, immediately began emergency and restoration work. Checks and inspections of power lines were made, faulty sections were identified, repairs were started. At present, crews of branches of IDGC of Centre and IDGC of Centre and Volga Region, who came to the aid of their Tver colleagues, as well as power engineers from MOESK and FGC UES, are working at all affected overhead lines.

Separate local power outages after the anomalous hail and hurricane wind were recorded yesterday in Rzhevsky, Staritsky and Zubtsovsky districts. Monitoring the meteorological situation, the specialists of IDGC of Centre were ready to meet the bad weather. In the shortest possible time, the power engineers began to eliminate the consequences of the disaster, reducing the number of de-energized consumers from several thousand to several dozens over the night. Work on the restoration of electricity will go on to the last consumer, connected in the grid.

According to the immediate information, the power engineers plan to supply all large settlements of the Tver region that fell into the outage zone today until 6:00 p.m. Many consumers will receive electricity from standby power circuits. At the same time, the company’s employees will continue to conduct work in the region to restore the power grid complex and increase its reliability. According to experts, emergency repairs will continue in the Upper Volga Region until the end of Tuesday, 8 August.

IDGC of Centre – Tverenergo division thanks residents of the Tver region for understanding the complicated emergency situation that has developed in the region and asks for patience. We draw your attention to the fact that timely calling the hotline of the company at 8-800-50-50-115 will help power engineers to identify de-energized sections of power supply circuits that are not directly controlled by IDGC of Centre, but belong to gardening organizations, territorial grid organizations and other grid owners.
