Events of the Forum "RUGRIDS-ELECTRO. Russian Grids. New Opportunities"

21 October 2015

20 October 2015 the International Electric Power Forum "RUGRIDS-ELECTRO. Russian Grids. New Opportunities" and the largest industrial exhibition "Rugrids-Electro" started working in Moscow. Key events of the first day were the debate "Electric Power Industry in Russia - a national technological way or a "mirror" of global trends of development?" and a round table, devoted to the effective interaction of small and large businesses in the electricity sector.

Today the Russian electricity industry is facing a dilemma: to prepare for a new investment cycle in the electric power industry under the "traditional" model or start an accelerated innovative development of the industry to eventually change the technical and technological base, some industrial assets, the architecture of the energy system and markets in general. Both paths have many significant risks and challenges, placing heavy demands on resources and investment. Participants of the debate "Electric Power Industry in Russia - a national technological way or "mirror" of global trends of development?" discussed the prospects for the preservation and development of the Russian electric power industry beyond the model of accelerated innovative development, trying to identify the objective opportunities of innovative reengineering of the Russian energy sector.

The participants noted that the upcoming investment cycle requires new financial and human resources. The industry has accumulated systemic problems, and the main question of the day is whether the industry is able to solve its long-term objectives in the framework of the established traditional model. The existing industry architecture imposes certain restrictions on innovation, and the answer to this contradiction should be the approach of "creating without destroying". "The reform of the energy sector should be complete: from generation to collection of payments," stressed Co-founder of the technopark "Sofia Antipolis", Founder of Club de Nice Dominique Fache. "To make the system operate in a balanced manner, it is necessary to reform it all around."

The debate participants paid special attention to the possibility of a symbiosis of distributed smart energy and a democratic market model with the existing architecture and features of the UES of Russia. "The effect of the electric power industry reform reflected in the fact that the reform "woke up" the consumer - the customer began to take decisions," stated General Director of the Institute of Energy Strategy, D.Eng.Sc., Professor Vitaly Bushuev. "The main issue is the question of not the economy, but a matter of convenience. They buy something that is more convenient. They are engaged in the development of own generation, because it is convenient. Electric cars will gain popularity, when they become cheaper, because it is convenient too. The future is not only for the economic levers, but for the convenience factors. And the rights and responsibilities of the consumer and producer should be aligned," said V. Bushuev.

Considering the obstacles to innovation in the electricity industry, First Deputy General Director of PJSC "Rosseti" Roman Berdnikov noted, in particular, strong economic reasons to change the current system: "It is necessary to modify the electric power system," stressed R. Berdnikov.

The roundtable "Small and medium businesses. How to interact?" at the Forum "Rugrids-Electro" representatives of the Russian public organization of small and medium-sized businesses "OPORA RUSSIA", PJSC "Rosseti", authorities, the "Skolkovo" Fund and the Foundation for Development of Internet Initiatives assessed the situation in the wholesale and retail electricity markets . Enough time has passed since the beginning of the reform, which radically changed the whole Russian electric power system. But the industry is not standing still, and now the key to success in the electricity market becomes cooperation of major electricity companies with small and medium-sized businesses. Successful examples of such cooperation are numerous enough, and yet in this area there are still some limitations. What has been done and what further measures should be taken to build an effective ecosystem around the biggest players in the industry, discussed the roundtable participants on the first day of the Forum "Rugrids-Electro".

The first day of the Forum and Exhibition "Rugrids-Electro" was full of important events for the electricity industry. The site of the Forum held a discussion "The territories of priority development, special economic zones, industrial and technology parks - an incubator for innovation", where the Forum participants discussed the sovereign generation, the company RNC CIGRE invited experts to discuss experiences and perspectives of introduction of technologies of direct current in the UES of Russia, specialists at the round table assessed the prospects for constructing smart grids based on smart meters and MPEI students took part in an exciting technological quest.

The first day of the forum was attended by nearly 1,000 people, representatives of 400 companies, including foreign ones.

21 October in Moscow "Expocentre" the largest in the electricity industry Forum and Exhibition will continue its work.
