According to Rosstat, in 2014 the region became a leader in terms of growth in this area among the subjects of the Central Federal District, including - due to the implementation of housing social programs. In 2015-2016 290 thousand square metres of housing are expected to be commissioned in the Kostroma region.

IDGC of Centre synchronizes plans to create grid infrastructure in the region with plans for housing in its investment program. In 2015 the company plans to provide grid connection of apartment houses for 280 mln. rubles. Multi-storey residential buildings account for about two-thirds of the total capacity that IDGC of Centre plans to connect to the grid during the year (40 MW from 63 MW).

Among the most important projects implemented by IDGC of Centre in the region at present - grid connection of two new major micro-districts of Kostroma - "Agashkina Mountain" and "New Town" with an area of residential development of about 32 thousand square metres and 21 thousand square metres, respectively . The neighbourhood "Agashkina Mountain" will include more than 20 facilities - apartment buildings and social institutions. In this project IDGC of Centre - Kostromaenergo division plans to construct five transformer substations and a distribution point, combined with a transformer substation. Electricity to the new neighbourhood will be fed from the 110/35/10 kV Substation "South". The total power demand for newly constructed facilities of the micro-district "Agashkina Mountain" is more than 6 MW, their connection will be gradual and is designed for 2015-2017. Now experts of Kostromaenergo carry out work on preparation of project documentation to connect the neighbourhood. There are currently already two contracts signed for grid connection of two apartment houses with maximum power demand of 560 kW.

The total electric power demand for newly constructed facilities of the neighbourhood "New Town" is also more than 6 MW, their connection to the power grid has been carried out since 2012. In total, within this project Kostromaenergo plans to construct six transformer substations and a distribution point, combined with a transformer substation. The micro-district will also be fed from the substation "South". At the moment, the Kostroma branch of IDGC of Centre has concluded and is implementing 22 grid connection contracts for infrastructure facilities of "New Town". Kostromaenergo’s specialists performed construction of a 10 kV distribution point and four 10/0.4 kV transformer substations, for the other two project documentation is being prepared. In the current year it is planned to connect to the power grid three high-rise residential buildings with a total capacity of 733 kW. Full completion of the work is scheduled for 2017.
