Igor Makovskiy: the competition of final qualifying works is an important component of educating young talented personnel for digital energy

9 December 2020

Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region have summed up the results of the competition of graduate students’ qualification works on topics of digital transformation of the power grid complex. It was attended by representatives of universities from 16 regions of the country. The winner was Vladimir Sorokin, a student of the Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University named after R. E. Alekseev, who presented for the competition the work “Development of intelligent devices and algorithms for relay protection in power zones with distributed generation sources”. The second place went to Philip Kulikov from the Ivanovo State Power Engineering University, the author of the work “Development of a method for determining a fault location on overhead lines using vector measurements”. Nikita Smirnov from the Yaroslavl State Technical University with the work “Development of a digital model of an electricity consumer using machine learning technologies” became the third.

The winners and prize-winners of the competition were awarded with diplomas. In addition, the organizers noted seven finalists - university students from the Smolensk, Tver, Voronezh, Kirov, Orel and Tambov regions.

The qualification works competition was the second and final stage of the thematic information course “Digital transformation in the power grid complex” developed by Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region for higher educational institutions. At the first stage, the power companies organized and conducted 180 lectures on nine “digital” topics in 20 universities in the regions of their activity. More than 1,500 students and teachers became their listeners. Taking into account the high interest shown in the course, the power engineers plan to make it regular.

“The process of digital transformation, which has rapidly developed in the domestic power grid complex, makes the issues of accelerated training of specialists with the appropriate skills and competencies ready to work in rapidly changing conditions and coordinate systems extremely urgent. We approach them systematically, implementing a set of targeted measures. The competition of final qualifying works plays an important role among them. It helps students immerse themselves in the topic of digitalization, to be imbued with it. As a result, the industry receives young talented personnel, adapted and absolutely prepared for solving the problems of building a new, high-tech, efficient energy sector of the future,” emphasized General Director of Rosseti Centre - the managing organization of Rosseti Centre and Volga Region Igor Makovskiy.
