6 March 2020

General Director of Rosseti Centre - the managing organization of Rosseti Centre and Volga Region Igor Makovskiy, on the eve of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory, met with a participant in the Great Patriotic War, holder of the “Honorary Power Engineer” badge, Nikolay D. Shmelev, who had been working in the branch “Rosseti Centre Tambovenergo” for more than 40 years.

In a warm homely atmosphere, over a cup of tea, Nikolay Shmelev spoke about his life, that he had met the war as a fourteen-year-old teenager. He tried to get to the front, ran away from home twice, but because of his age he was returned. The life experience gained during the war years gave Nikolay Shmelev a real hardening, developed tenacity, optimism, faith in overcoming difficulties. He was appreciated in the Tambovenergo team, he was trusted, and his opinions were followed. Until now, he recalls the years of work in Tambovenergo with a smile on his face and a gleam in his eyes and says that he went to work every day as a holiday. Nikolay Shmelev is always an honorary guest in Tambovenergo, not only at events dedicated to Victory Day, he always gladly responds to invitations of the branch’s employees and does not lose touch with his native enterprise.

In total, 26 veterans of the Great Patriotic War, 132 home front workers, 28 prisoners of concentration camps and 3 residents of besieged Leningrad live in the territories of the service area of Rosseti Centre.

“Preserving the memory of the war is an important and responsible mission, especially in the anniversary year. As a socially responsible company, we consider it our duty to pay tribute to the people who saved the world for us. In my opinion, it is necessary to organize meetings with our veterans more often, to communicate more often, because all they need now is our sincere care, support, emotional attention, so that they do not feel alone. Also, in anticipation of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, a separate decision was made to pay financial assistance to veterans in the amount of 50 thousand rubles, to home front workers - 30 thousand rubles,” stressed Igor Makovskiy.
