Igor Makovskiy visited the machine-building plant of JSC ZiO-Podolsk, which is part of Rosatom State Corporation, to get acquainted with the installed industrial-grade electric power storage system

4 February 2022

Igor Makovskiy, General Director of Rosseti Centre, PJSC - the managing organization of Rosseti Centre and Volga region, PJSC, visited the machine-building enterprise JSC ZiO-Podolsk to get acquainted with a new type of electric power storage systems presented by Rosatom State Corporation and subsequently discuss potential areas of cooperation.

Alexander Kamashev, General Director of RENERA LLC (part of TVEL Fuel Company) - Rosatom’s integrator for energy storage systems, told the head of the energy company Rosseti Centre, PJSC about the possibilities of using storage devices and plans for the development of the direction. Grigory Nazarov, General Director of JSC NovaWind, in his speech spoke about the accumulated competencies of JSC Atomenergopromsbyt in the field of predictive analytics for determining the hour of peak consumption of electric power in the regions and the load curve of the enterprise.

On the example of a storage system installed at the production site, such functions of the storage system as a reduction in power and electricity consumed from the external grid in order to optimize consumer costs were demonstrated.

It should be noted that 18 high-tech power storage units manufactured by Rosatom have already been implemented in the territory of the Companies’ presence in order to improve the reliability and quality of power supply. The systems are developed on the basis of a modern lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 40 to 82 kWh, equipped with a semiconductor converter with a power of 30 kW or more. The control system implements automatic and remote control modes of the unit.

One of the modifications of the operating systems is designed to ensure the reliability of power supply to such critical facilities as medical institutions, kindergartens, boiler houses, the other is to maintain the quality of electricity by smoothing out peak loads.

“Today, energy storage systems are used by us in the regions of presence of Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga region to supply energy to a number of important facilities, including socially significant ones. This technology has already proven its effectiveness, so we are planning to expand the scope of its application in the power grid complex. We will continue joint research and development work with manufacturers of these systems in order to develop the infrastructure of the grid facilities, which will ultimately lead to an increase in the reliability and quality of power supply to consumers,” stressed Igor Makovskiy.

“Energy storage systems based on lithium-ion batteries have broad application prospects, not only as the “Commercial dispatching” system, but also as a source of energy flexibility and reliability in the power grid,” said Alexander Kamashev.
“The predictive analytics algorithms developed by us proved their economic viability in the projects “Commercial dispatcher based on an energy storage device”, launched jointly with RENERA LLC last year. We see a high potential for applying our competencies in this area to improve the energy efficiency of the power grid complex and optimize the load curve of consumers,” stressed Grigory Nazarov
