Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region allocated over 84 million rubles in 2019 to ensure environmental safety

31 January 2020

Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region summed up the implementation of the Environmental Safety Program (hereinafter referred to as the Program) in 2019 aimed at implementing the Environmental Policy of the electric grid complex. Last year, the companies carried out 45 environmental protection measures in the regions of their activity (20 constituent entities of the Russian Federation). 84.5 million rubles were allocated for these purposes.

“As a socially responsible company, we pay the most serious attention to environmental policy issues, ensuring the unconditional and timely implementation of all the measures envisaged. Carrying out consistent work on the rational use of natural energy resources and minimizing the negative impact on the environment, strictly controlling the compliance with all environmental requirements during production, we contribute to increasing the overall level of environmental safety in the country,” stressed General Director of Rosseti Centre - the managing organization of Rosseti Centre and Volga Region Igor Makovskiy.

Much attention is paid to ensuring the environmentally balanced development of the electric power industry. This is aimed, in particular, at technical measures to replace oil circuit breakers with vacuum and SF6 circuit breakers, which, unlike oil-filled equipment, are fireproof, have increased reliability and durability, and higher technical indicators.

At electric grid facilities of Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region, bare wire is replaced by self-supporting insulated wire (SIW). This measure allows to reduce the clearing area of routes (it is done to prevent failures associated with falling trees on power lines), and also to protect birds from effects of electric current. In 2019, the companies purchased more than 16.5 thousand special bird protection devices that are installed on poles of overhead lines to ensure the safety of wildlife during transmission of electricity, as well as to reduce the failure rate in the power grid complex associated with the life of birds.

Work continued on monitoring the content of the amount of pollutants at stationary sources of emissions and in the sanitary-protective zones of production sites, landscaping and greening of the enterprises. In order to protect and rationally use water resources, specialists of branches of Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region regularly carried out instrumental quality control of the extracted underground and waste waters.

The arrangement of sites for accumulation of production and consumption waste is one of the important areas of environmental protection for the companies. In 2019, 33 demercurization kits were purchased for equipping mercury-containing lamp storage sites and 228 containers for separate storage of production and consumption waste.

264 managers and specialists of Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region responsible for environmental protection received training on environmental safety programs last year, including during work in the field of hazardous waste management.
