Igor Makovskiy: we systematically and consistently increase the level of “digital” staff competencies - and already see the practical effect of this work

12 August 2019

Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region launched a comprehensive program to develop staff competencies in the field of digital transformation. Given the unprecedented scale of digitalization in both companies, the educational process to one degree or another covers all employees without exception.

The staff training and continuing education program is “embedded” into the roadmap of the Digital Transformation Concept of Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region. One of its priorities is to educate employees in the basics of the international standard IEC 61850, on which the digital substation technology is based. The first group of chief engineers of branches of Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region has already completed training under the new advanced training program “Fundamentals of IEC 61850. Current status and prospects for the development of digital substations” based on Ivanovo State Power Engineering University. Currently, heads of specialized services and subdivisions of the companies’ branches, specialists and engineers, who directly configure and maintain digital equipment, are studying.

“The success of the Digital Transformation Concept is largely determined by the professional competencies of the staff. Taking into account the scale of the tasks facing us, it is very important that each employee has a clear idea of the essence, technologies and goals of this process. We are engaged in “digital education” systematically and consistently, and we are already seeing the practical effect of this work,” stressed General Director of Rosseti Centre - the managing organization of Rosseti Centre and Volga Region Igor Makovskiy.

Similarly, training of specialists is organized in each direction of the Concept. Thus, as part of the digital transformation, Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region significantly increased the fleet of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for automatic monitoring of overhead power lines. In anticipation of the large-scale introduction of drones into work in the companies, the training of technical unit specialists responsible for the implementation and organization of flights and UAV control has started.

The system of training centres of Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region is actively used for staff training and further training. A training point “Digital substation and telemetry of transformer substation” was created on the basis of the training centre of the branch “Tulenergo”, at which the companies’ personnel will study digital technologies and solutions as part of a specially developed general training course and specialized programs. The institute of Knowledge Day has been introduced in Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region, within the framework of which regulations, articles, and other materials on the topic of digitalization are examined in detail. Currently, the companies continue to actively develop new information formats and materials on the topic of digital transformation to increase the intensity of “immersion” of employees in a new topic for them.
