Rosseti Centre commissioned the world’s first power grid facility in the form of a heraldic symbol of the city

5 August 2019

The company “Rosseti Centre” has commissioned a unique electric grid facility - a power line pole, stylized as the coat of arms of the city of Belgorod. The opening ceremony was held on 5 August. Governor of the Belgorod region Yevgeny Savchenko, General Director of Rosseti Centre - the managing organization of Rosseti Centre and Volga Region Igor Makovskiy and the head of the administration of the city of Belgorod Yury Galdun took part in the ceremony.

The innovative energy facility has become a significant gift to Belgorod residents for the City Day and a modern decoration of the recently reconstructed city embankment.

In his welcoming speech, the head of the region thanked the power engineers for the unique symbol presented to the city. “This is not just a pole, but a real art object, which has become a wonderful gift to Belgorod. I’m sure that the symbol in the form of a soaring eagle and a lion will inspire us to new achievements,” stressed Yevgeny Savchenko.

The project was implemented as part of the Agreement with the Government of the Belgorod region on cooperation in the development of the region’s electric grid complex. For Rosseti Centre, this is the first such experience. The grid facility will improve not only the reliability of power supply, but also the tourist attractiveness of the region.

General Director of Rosseti Centre - the managing organization of Rosseti Centre and Volga Region Igor Makovskiy emphasized, “Belgorod is the scientific, economic and cultural centre of the Central Black Earth Region. A beautiful city with a glorious history. We hope that this essentially architectural object will be a worthy gift for its birthday. It will make Belgorod even more beautiful, brighter, more comfortable and more attractive.”

The modernized power line pole was installed instead of an intermediate pole on an artificial peninsula in the Vezelka riverbed as part of the reconstruction of the 110 kV “Frunzenskaya - Zapadnaya No. 2” overhead line and 110 kV “Zapadnaya - Avtoremzavod” overhead line. Its height is 26 metres, width - 15 metres, thickness - 2 metres. Total weight - 25 tons. The object was designed taking into account wind, snow and other types of loads. The surface of the pole is covered with special paint in the colours of the coat of arms. The figure of the lion on the coat of arms is two-sided, so it will be well visible from any direction, and illuminated at night.

Already during the opening ceremony of the pole, a new world and Russian record was registered - “The world’s first power line pole in the form of the heraldic symbol of the city”. The record holder’s certificate was handed to Igor Makovskiy by General Director of the international agency for registering records INTERRECORD Vlad Kopylov, who specially arrived in Belgorod. The ceremony ended with the presentation of letters of thanks to representatives of contracting organizations and Belgorodenergo’s employees who took an active part in the construction of the power facility.
