Igor Makovskiy: protecting the integrity of electric grid facilities is an important factor in ensuring the energy security of the regions

Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region conduct systematic work to prevent theft of power equipment and its elements from electric grid facilities.

One of the most effective measures is raids, during which specialists of security subdivisions of branches of the companies inspect power grid facilities and check scrap collection points. Active preventive work brings results, according to identified facts of theft, measures are taken.

“The protection of the Company’s assets, the integrity of electric grid infrastructure is an important factor in ensuring the energy security of the regions of our activity. We intend to continue the uncompromising fight against the theft of electrical equipment, seeking in each case the most severe punishment, both for those who stole and for those who contributed to this,” stressed General Director of Rosseti Centre - the managing organization of Rosseti Centre and Volga Region Igor Makovskiy.

In the first half of the year, the security unit experts revealed the theft of 9 vacuum circuit breakers and 18 control units. In particular, such cases were recorded in the Kursk, Lipetsk, Orel, Tula, Ryazan regions. The damage to the branch “Kurskenergo” amounted to more than 1.2 million rubles, to the branch “Orelenergo” - more than 200 thousand rubles. Criminals also steal uninsulated steel-aluminum wire. A major theft occurred in the Ryazan region, where violators stole more than 13 km of wire, knocking down 12 power line poles. The damage amounted to about 800 thousand rubles. On facts of the revealed crimes, Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region send applications to law enforcement agencies. Criminal cases are instituted, courts give sentences. Control over the improvement by the branches of measures to protect energy facilities based on the use of engineering and technical security equipment has been strengthened.

As practice shows, criminals receive serious penalties for the theft of electrical equipment. In February, a verdict was passed against a native of Pleshkov in Sokolsky district of the Ivanovo region, who had repeatedly committed the theft of electric wires: having found him guilty of an offense under Part 1 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the court sentenced him to 200 hours of compulsory labour. In March, a resident of Kilmezsky district of the Kirov region, who stole a power transformer from a package transformer substation, owned by the branch “Kirovenergo”, was sentenced to six months of restraint of liberty under the same article.

Guilty verdicts were also given to thieves in other regions.
