Rosseti Centre to meter electricity in real time

17 July 2019

Specialists of the branch “Rosseti Centre Voronezhenergo”, within the framework of the implementation of the digital transformation concept, have begun the trial operation of a new smart data collection and transmission system. It combines the functions of automated metering of electrical energy and remote control and is intended for installation at transformer substations of 6-10/0.4 kV.

The prototype provided by the developer was mounted at a transformer substation in Novousmansky district of the Voronezh region. The system’s input modules of discrete signals and remote controllers and an automated electricity metering system (AMR) allow Voronezhenergo’s dispatchers to monitor the condition of the electric grid and key parameters of power equipment operation in real time, and the installed modern electronic metering device has the capability to remotely transfer data to the AMR.

The AMR system improves the reliability of electricity metering by visualizing, both in graphic and in tabular form, the difference between the electricity supplied to the grid and the net supply. Automatic calculation of losses due to the existing function of automatic construction of a feeder balance will allow to quickly obtain information about possible theft of electricity, which will significantly reduce the response time to possible technological disruptions, as well as reduce electricity losses during transmission to 7% in the grid of 0.4-6-10 kV.

This year, as part of the implementation of the concept of digital transformation of the electric grid complex, more than 1.6 thousand 10-6/0.4 kV transformer substations are planned to be equipped with these smart metering systems and remote control systems. More than 210 million rubles are provided for the implementation of the project by the branch’s investment program. In the future, the project is planned to be replicated in the framework of 20 regions of activity of Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga Region.

Reducing losses is one of the priorities in the framework of the Digital Transformation Concept. It is expected that following the results of the implementation of the first stage of the project, the level of losses in Rosseti Centre will decrease from 10.6% to 7%, and the savings will amount to 5 billion rubles a year.

*- Since June 2019, all companies of the transmission and distribution grid complex in corporate and marketing communications, as well as on all corporate identity carriers have been using the new name containing the Rosseti trademark and regional or functional binding.
