“Ultimate readiness and mobilization of power engineers of IDGC of Centre and IDGC of Centre and Volga Region became the key to reliable operation of the power grid complex in 20 regions of the country during the period of snowfall and blizzards” - Igor Makovskiy

28 January 2019

Last weekend was another serious challenge for power engineers of IDGC of Centre - the managing organization of IDGC of Centre and Volga Region (part of ROSSETI’s Group of Companies, operating in 20 regions of the Russian Federation). Almost all regions of the company were covered by snow and blizzards, which, as practice shows, creates a serious danger to the power supply of consumers. The strongest snowfall with icing came to the Voronezh and Kaluga regions. In the Vladimir region, over the weekend, almost half the monthly norm of snow fell, in the Tver region - one third of the monthly norm. Snowfall in Tula repeated the record of 10 years ago.

IDGC of Centre and IDGC of Centre and Volga Region met with the bad weather in the mode of maximum mobilization. Back on Friday in branches, where the most severe weather deterioration was expected in the near future, a high-alert mode was introduced. No less serious work was carried out in the other branches, where a set of preventive organizational and technical measures was carried out.

The power engineers established special control over the operation of electric grid infrastructure facilities and organized a clear information interaction with the territorial subdivisions of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, regional and local authorities. The readiness of operating and maintenance personnel, the provision of crews with necessary tools, devices, clothing and specialized vehicles was checked. A list was formed and the composition of mobile crews of branches of IDGC of Centre and IDGC of Centre and Volga Region was determined, being ready, if necessary, to move forward quickly to assist in carrying out emergency recovery work outside their operational responsibility areas.

In total, 2,872 crews consisting of more than 13 thousand people, 4,409 automotive and specialized vehicles, as well as resources of contracting organizations could be involved in the elimination of technological violations in all branches of the power companies. At their disposal there were 1,709 backup power supply sources with a total installed capacity of about 56.16 MW, which can be used to temporarily provide power.

Over the weekend, the monitoring of the operational situation in all regions of activity around the clock was carried out by the Headquarters of IDGC of Centre - the managing organization of IDGC of Centre and Volga Region under the personal supervision of General Director Igor Makovskiy.

“At the weekend we worked without technological violations. The ultimate readiness and mobilization of the power engineers of IDGC of Centre and IDGC of Centre became the key to reliable functioning of the power grid complex of 20 regions of the country during the period of snowfall and blizzards. We are still keeping our vigilance, especially given the unfavourable weather forecasts for the coming days, and we are taking all the necessary measures to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers.” emphasized Igor Makovskiy.
