IDGC of Centre and IDGC of Centre and Volga Region discussed ways to implement the concept “Digital Transformation 2030”

21 January 2019

IDGC of Centre - the managing organization of IDGC of Centre and Volga Region under the leadership of Acting First Deputy General Director Vitaly Akulichev held a meeting of representatives of the Company’s management with participation of Deputy General Directors in all areas, including heads of branches. The event participants discussed the concept “Digital Transformation 2030”, approved by the Board of Directors of PJSC ROSSETI in December 2018.

Top Adviser of PJSC ROSSETI Konstantin Mikhaylenko spoke about the key provisions of the document defining the main vectors and parameters of the digital development of the domestic electric grid complex, as well as its “roadmap”. In particular, he explained that the concept involves the implementation of digital technologies and solutions both in the technological and corporate sectors. Among its main areas, Konstantin Mikhaylenko outlined the introduction of a unified digital CIM model of the grid and a smart transmission system with real-time control, which allows automatic fault location and control of operating modes, as well as the ubiquitous transition from the three level to two level and single-level (“flat”) model of operational and technological management.

“Digital transformation will ensure a high level of “purity” and reliability of data, which will help to create the most accurate predictive models of the grid and its elements, respond adequately to any failures, ensure the fair value of grid companies’ services,” stressed Top Adviser of PJSC ROSSETI. In addition, according to him, the aggregation of large volumes of information and data exchange with other industry infrastructure actors, as well as with ministries and departments, will allow to create unique services that help predict the development of regional economies.

Speaking further, Vitaly Akulichev spoke about the implementation of the activities of the 1st stage of the concept of digital transformation in IDGC of Centre and IDGC of Centre and Volga Region. The key activities of the 1st stage were: the Digital Distribution Zone, Digital Substation, the development of digital radio communications and the creation of unified control centres for grids of all voltage classes. Vitaly Akulichev elaborated on individual technologies of digital transformation: distributed automation, smart metering of electricity, the digital electrician for operation of power grid assets. At the same time, Vitaly Akulichev noted that the scale of digital transformation activities in each of the branches was determined in accordance with a set of criteria, one of which was readiness to participate in this process of regional authorities.

Please, be reminded that the concept “Digital Transformation 2030” of PJSC ROSSETI implies a complete transformation of the domestic electric grid infrastructure until 2030 through the implementation of digital technologies. As international experience shows, this allows to significantly reduce operating and investment costs of grid companies, decrease power losses, improve reliability, availability of power supply and create a set of additional services for customers. In addition, digital transformation involves obtaining savings in the implementation of investment programs, opens up new opportunities for rapid development of grid infrastructure while increasing profitability of the company’s business. In addition, the implementation of digital solutions will ensure that the infrastructure is ready for new technological challenges.

Among the expected results of the Digital Transformation concept is a 50% reduction in the SAIDI/SAIFI indicators, a 1.5 times increase in the availability of grid connection, a 10% increase in assets’ lifecycle, a 30% and 15% decrease, respectively, of operating and capital costs.
