Pavel Livinskiy: “Substation “Constellation” is an important step towards digital transformation of power grids of the Kaluga region in the interests of consumers”

14 December 2018

A solemn ceremony was held in the Kaluga region to transfer the 220 kV substation “Constellation” of ROSSETI’s Group of Companies to its full capacity. The event was attended by Head of the energy holding Pavel Livinskiy, Governor of the Kaluga Region Anatoly Artamonov and General Director of a subsidiary company of ROSSETI - IDGC of Centre, which is the sole executive body of IDGC of Centre and Volga Region, Igor Makovskiy.

“Constellation” is one of the most modern power facilities in the country, with additional telemechanics installed, providing full observability of power equipment, modern relay protection and automation systems, and the interconnection of internal networks with dispatch centres of respective levels is carried out using digital protocols. At the same time, the level of automation of the substation allows not only to monitor but also control the power facility from dispatching points.

“Today we have witnessed another step of ROSSETI’s Group on the path of digital transformation of the electric grid complex and increasing the reliability of electricity supply to industrial consumers of the Kaluga region, and these are 39 residents of the industrial park “Vorsino”, and the large railway terminal “Freight Village Vorsino”, which is a part of the way between Beijing and Berlin. In addition, the possibility of connecting residents of future residential areas in the northern part of the region is provided. Our efforts to develop the region’s energy system allow us to expand production, create hundreds of new jobs and improve the quality of life of ordinary citizens,” stated Pavel Livinskiy during his speech.

“It is very important for us that the commissioning of the substation “Constellation”, which has a special technological, economic and social significance for the Kaluga region, takes place on the eve of our professional holiday - the Power Engineers’ Day,” said Igor Makovskiy in his welcoming speech. “The substation “Constellation” due to the digital technologies applied at it ensures high quality of power supply to consumers and efficiency of process control.”

The substation "Constellation" with its installed capacity of 500 MVA provides the necessary amount of electrical power for residents of the industrial park "Vorsino", including enterprises of such world famous brands as "Oriflame", "Astra Zeneka", "Total", "Omya Ural", as well as the Kaluga Region Development Corporation and Kaluga Special Economic Zone. In addition, the power facility provides transit flows and participates in the formation of inter-regional energy links in the Kaluga and Moscow regions.
