IDGC of Centre, in the framework of the preparation for the winter, organized large-scale exercises in the Tambov region

4 September 2018

In the Tambov region, large-scale exercises were conducted to eliminate emergency situations associated with a power failure in low-temperature conditions. The event, organized by IDGC of Centre - Tambovenergo division together with a branch of SO UES Lipetsk Transmission Control Centre, was also attended by representatives of the General Directorate of the EMERCOM of Russia in the Tambov region, the Fire Safety Centre, a branch of FGC UES - Upper-Don PMES, other energy enterprises operating in the region. The exercises were conducted within the framework of the preparation of the electric grid complex of the region to the autumn-winter maximum of loads.

According to the scenario, emergency outage of a 110 kV overhead line resulted in de-energization of three 110 kV Tambov substations, as a result of which power supply of about 90,000 residents of the city and Tambovsky district was interrupted. A parallel overhead line in the repair scheme of the 110 kV grid was put into maintenance. The situation was aggravated by the active cold cyclone that had passed through the south-west of the region with strong wind and snow, which led to massive interruptions of power supply of consumers in Petrovsky, Mordovsky, Tokarevsky and Zherdevsky districts: total in the zone of conditional emergency outages there were about 6.5 thousand people, 161 transformer substations, 16 settlements, 22 socially significant facilities, including medical facilities, schools, kindergartens, water towers, boiler houses.

Immediately after the information on the failure was received, dispatchers of the Grid Control Centre of the Tambov branch of IDGC of Centre immediately started taking measures to eliminate its consequences. In Distribution Zones of Tambovenergo, in the territory of which there were massive outages, all available resources were mobilized. In addition, crews and specialized vehicles from neighbouring Distribution Zones were sent there. The power engineers quickly energized socially significant facilities from backup power supply sources and reserve overhead lines and carried out emergency repair work on the damaged electric grid equipment.

As a result of the coordinated actions of all participants of the exercises, the conditioned emergency situation was eliminated in the shortest possible time for such cases. In the affected districts, a normal power supply scheme was restored. Organizers of the training highly appreciated the actions of the power engineers.

"The exercises showed a high degree of readiness of Tambovenergo’s employees to eliminate emergency situations. At present, the branch is completing the preparation of the electric grid complex of the region for the autumn-winter period. Our facilities and personnel are ready to provide high reliability of power supply to consumers," stressed Acting Deputy Director General of IDGC of Centre - Tambovenergo division director Nikolay Bogomolov.
