Innovation in reconstruction: power engineers of IDGC Centre pulls an ultralight cable through the Don River

14 August 2018

The Lipetsk branch of IDGC of Centre renews the energy complex of the region.

Attaching great importance to the technical state of transitions of overhead lines through water barriers, this year the branch will carry out the reconstruction of the crossing of the double-circuit 110 kV Conductor - "Donskaya" through the Don River.

The complexity of this reconstruction lies in the considerable length of the transition - more than 800 metres, as well as the inability to replace anchor poles. They are located within the boundaries of the specially protected area of the "Galichya Gora" reserve. The only possible solution was the installation of an innovative wire with a composite core. It uses a hybrid composite material with high-strength carbon fibers, due to the special properties of which it provides a minimum wire sag during heating. In comparison with the AC wire with the same diameter, this allows doubling the rated current, which means that the line capacity is doubled; the composite core has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, provides higher strength of the wire, smaller sagging of the span, providing the opportunity to increase the length of spans of the line.

Currently, the project documentation development for the reconstruction of this transition, preparatory work for construction and installation works is being carried out.

Modern technologies will be used to repair the 110kV high-voltage line "Lebedyan". It provides electricity to Lebedyansky, Dankovsky and Krasninskiy districts. Here old reinforced concrete supports are changed to composite ones. They have dielectric properties, are very durable and long lasting. On the line "Lebedyan" they will also replace 37 kilometres of the lightning protection cable with a modern, non-corrosive one. Its service life is not less than 50 years. Indicators of short circuits will be installed on the line.

"We have ahead of us the reconstruction of several important facilities of the power grid complex in the Lipetsk region. In addition to the "Lebedyan" line, we are to reconstruct the 110 kV "Lutoshkino" and "Dvurechki" overhead lines. They supply electricity to Krasninskiy and Gryazinsky districts. This is more than 60 kilometres of wires and dozens of poles. Such large-scale repairs will help the region operate through the winter without emergency. And our company will do its utmost to ensure that all work is to be carried out in a quality manner and on time," said Sergey Dmitriev, deputy director for capital construction at IDGC of Centre - Lipetskenergo division.

During the first half of the year, Lipetskenergo reconstructed 68 kilometres of high-voltage lines, commissioned 5.10 MVA of capacity. The branch of IDGC of Centre invested more than 250 million rubles in the power grid complex of the region.
