Work is under way to restore electricity in the north-west of the Tver region

26 December 2017

Unfavourable weather conditions in the north-western districts of the Tver region continue to provoke interruptions in the electricity supply to consumers. The abundant precipitation in the form of wet snow disrupts the operation of power transmission lines, provoking fall of trees from the boundaries of ROWs of transmission lines, breaks of overhead lines and torn wires. The restoration of the power supply scheme is being carried out by the intensive grouping of IDGC of Centre’s power engineers in the number of 137 crews.

According to the information provided by the Grid Control Centre of IDGC of Centre - Tverenergo division, the main part of the technological irregularities in the power grid complex is recorded in the areas that were suffering from the cyclone over the past few weeks - Zapadnodvinsky, Toropetsky, Andreapolsky and Ostashkovsky. The work of power transmission lines is restored and violated again by a strong blizzard. At the moment, one 35 kV overhead line, two 10 kV overhead lines, 42 transformer substations have been disconnected. According to Tverenergo, 1,628 people are in the de-energizing zone. All socially important facilities, as well as a number of settlements, are powered by backup sources of electricity.

All this time around the clock, the personnel of the Tver, Kursk, Yaroslavl, Voronezh, Belgorod, Smolensk branches of IDGC of Centre have been operating in difficult meteorological conditions, both in settlements along low voltage networks of 0.4 kV, and in forests on power lines of 6-10 kV. Especially intense emergency recovery work is in the swampy terrain, where, during the transition from thaw to frost, due to high humidity and precipitation on poles and wires, extended (up to 60 km) overhead lines fail. The power engineers make rounds with specialized off-road vehicles, and where transport cannot physically move forward - on skis. In total, in the Tver region, about 630 people and more than 1.5 thousand vehicles are currently involved into the restoration of electricity supply. Rescuers render great assistance to the power engineers.

Together with the General Directorate of the EMERCOM of Russia for the Tver region, household checks were organized. The goal is to inform residents about the progress of emergency and recovery work that is ongoing. Heads of municipalities and heads of settlements are in close cooperation with Tverenergo.

According to weather forecasters, in the next few days the weather in the region will not change. The Tver branch of IDGC of Centre continues to work in a special operating mode. Tverenergo asks residents of the Tver region to show patience and understanding. The work will be conducted until complete restoration!
