IDGC of Centre reminds: security zones of power lines - the territory of increased danger

30 May 2017

IDGC of Centre reminds: the power line security zone is a place of increased danger. The performance of any work that is not coordinated with the energy company within the boundaries of the protection zone not only creates prerequisites for emergency situations at power facilities, but also threatens the health and life of the work executors, as well as the safety of their property.

So, on 21 May in the settlement of Znamenka of the Orel region, an accident occurred with a local individual entrepreneur. Without notifying the grid company about the planned work and not having received a written permission for the performance, the entrepreneur planned drilling a water well under an overhead line of 110 kV. The machinist who arrived at the place ignored the warning signs placed on the poles of power lines and proceeded to perform the work. As a result, he had electric shock. Currently he is in a medical institution.

This incident, which almost became tragic for the executor, caused inconvenience to residents of the Orel district. The activated protection cut off the overhead line and temporarily left 6.5 thousand consumers without electricity. Employees of IDGC of Centre - Orelenergo division quickly energized the de-energized settlements with a reserve circuit, but it took more than four hours to completely eliminate the technological disturbance and restore the normal power supply scheme.

IDGC of Centre draws the attention of consumers: in the security zones of power lines loading and unloading operations, construction and storage of materials must not be carried out in any case. This is dangerous for life and is forbidden by the "Rules for the Establishment of Protected Zones for Electric Grid Facilities and Special Conditions for the Use of Land Plots Located within the Boundaries of Such Areas".

If nevertheless there was a touch of elements of special equipment to power lines, or approaching them to an unacceptable distance, the special equipment will be under voltage. The driver and people next to him to save life must not touch it, go down to earth or climb it until the voltage is removed. It is necessary to contact power engineering specialists immediately by calling 8-800-50-50-115 or 13-50 to de-energize the line. If the driver is in the cab in such a situation, he must, as far as possible, take measures to quickly break the contact, remove the movable parts of the mechanism from the power line wires for a distance of at least 1.5 metres.

If a fire starts in the car or another threat to life occurs, the driver can jump out of the cab while simultaneously touching the ground with two feet, without touching the metal parts of the cabin, and then "walking away" without taking his feet off the ground and away from each other, go away at 8 -10 metres from the danger zone. During the jump you should exclude the simultaneous contact of the body of the vehicle and the ground. It should be remembered that the distance in a radius of 8 m around the vehicle is also under the wire voltage, this is the step voltage zone. One should not allow anyone at the scene of the incident before the arrival of the emergency crew.

Do not endanger your life and do not be careless towards others. On facts of violation of boundaries of the security zone of power lines, it is necessary to inform your Distribution Zone or the Direct line of power engineers. This way you will help protect people from the adverse effects of electric currrent.
