IDGC of Centre does effective work to prevent electric injuries of third parties at grid facilities

2 August 2016

IDGC of Centre continues systematic work to reduce the risk of injury to third-parties at grid facilities.

The problem for the national electric grid complex is extremely important. As practice shows, often causes of injury to third parties are their illegal activities (theft of electricity, equipment), approach to installations at an unacceptably close distance, performing unauthorized work within protected zones of overhead and cable power lines. To prevent such cases in regions of its operating responsibility (11 subjects of the Central Federal District) IDGC of Centre implements a program to reduce risk of injury to third parties, including a set of organizational, technical, and outreach activities.

Experts of the company carry out regular inspections of transformer substations and overhead lines in populated areas and near them to make sure their fences of outer perimeters are in order, compliance with the rules of security zones of electric grid facilities, presence and correct installation of warning and information signs. During the summer special attention is paid to the power grid infrastructure, located near children’s health camps, kindergartens and schools, suburban cooperatives, as well as fish catching places. All violations are eliminated promptly, if necessary, appropriate schedules are developed for this.

Branches of IDGC of Centre systematically and consistently cooperate in the field of prevention of electric injuries with regional and local authorities and territorial divisions of federal agencies. The interaction is carried out in terms of informing the public about the need to comply with electrical safety regulations; suppression of cases of finding third parties in protected zones near power lines, and setting illegal dumps near power facilities and others. The regional and district media places prepared by IDGC of Centre information materials on prevention of electric injuries. Similar materials and visual propaganda are spread in gardening companies, collection points of scrap ferrous and non-ferrous metals, fishing communities and angling shops, traffic police departments, carrying out state registration of specialized vehicles, and points of their instrument control and technical inspection, as well as centres and points of customer service of IDGC of Centre’s branches.

The most serious attention is paid to the prevention of electric injuries among the younger generation. Staff of the branches of the company organizes in educational institutions of the regions thematic lessons, which introduce children and adolescents to the rules of safe behaviour near power facilities and rules on use of electrical appliances. During the summer holidays similar classes are held in children’s camps. In 2015 the power company held more than 2,100 lessons on electrical safety, more than 50 thousand children took part in them. The preventive work also involves parents and teachers.

IDGC of Centre provides schools with themed materials: copies of the published with the company’s support children’s book on electrical safety "Energolandiya", discs with materials on prevention of children’s electric injuries, class schedules, containing rules of electrical safety, etc. In addition, the power company regularly organizes thematic contests and campaigns, which invariably cause a great interest among children and adolescents.

Taken by IDGC of Centre’s specialists efforts bring results: according to the monitoring conducted among enterprises of the national electric grid complex, the level of injuries at the company’s facilities reduces. IDGC of Centre intends to continue taking all necessary measures in order to maintain the positive trend to minimize the likelihood of recurrence of similar cases.
