IDGC of Centre appealed to the law enforcement authorities to curb the activities of entrepreneurs selling "charged meters"

25 July 2016

Specialists of the Security Department of IDGC of Centre sent an appeal to the law enforcement authorities of 11 regions of the company’s service area, the purpose of which is to prevent the activities of legal entities, entrepreneurs and individuals engaged in distribution of goods used for distortion of parameters of electricity meters.

According to the specialists of the Security Department of IDGC of Centre, now the Internet has a large number of information resources, advertising and offering for sale these products, which are capable to stop metering electricity, gas or water, and instructions for use. At the same time sellers guarantee impossibility of detecting by controllers of intervention and modification of metering equipment that makes buyers believe about impunity of theft of energy resources.

One of the main priorities of the development of electric grid facilities of the country, provided by the Russian energy strategy for the period up to 2030, is to increase the efficiency of investment and reduce the level of losses. However, the program implementation to reduce losses in the grid is facing serious challenges and requires intervention and response from law enforcement agencies. The primary threat is the growing evidence of use by electricity consumers of neodymium magnets to stop metering electricity and electric meters with remote control, which allows temporarily to stop operation of a metering device without interrupting power supply of a customer.
