An action of power engineers of IDGC of Centre was entered into the Russian Book of Records

29 May 2014

Staff of IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division with the support of the regional administration organized a significant for the region and the country event, which was entered in the Russian Book of Records.

May 5, in the framework of the action "Energy of Victory" dedicated to Victory Day, volunteers of schools and representatives of youth organizations of the Smolensk region stretched in Lenin Square in Smolensk a 400-metre St. George ribbon 36.5 centimeters wide.

The giant tape became the world's largest in length, the fact was witnessed by the Russian Book of Records.

Measuring the length of the tape was performed in two stages: first, with an ordinary 25-centimetre tape measure, then - with the help of a modern laser rangefinder. Both types of independent measurements showed the same result – the record is clear.

At the moment the fate of the St. George ribbon is in the hands of the inhabitants of Smolensk: most of them are inclined to transfer the "champion" for storage to the City Museum of the Great Patriotic War.
