IDGC of Centre has begun construction a new energy efficient 110 kV substation in Belgorod

22 October 2013

IDGC of Centre — Belgorodenergo division has started construction of a new substation 110/35/6 kV «Kreida». The facility is designed for power supply to industrial and residential consumers in Belgorod, and it will appear in the eastern part of the regional centre. About 290 million rubles will be allocated for the construction.

The new centre will allow to provide supply of electricity to consumers, energized by 6 kV switchgear of the being reconstructed 330 kV substation «Belgorod», and to create the necessary reserve capacity for grid connection of new facilities to the networks.

The 50 MVA substation is designed to make the use of energy-efficient equipment and advanced technical solutions. At the supply centre there will be two power transformers of 25 MVA each installed, equipped with an automatic tap-changer, so the operator can remotely adjust the voltage in the grid.

The building of the substation control house and indoor distribution 6-35 kV switchgear will be performed in modular design with the possibility of future expansion and inclusion of additional capacity. At outdoor switchgear 110 kV disconnectors with electric drives with polymer pole and rod insulation and 110 kV gas-insulated circuit breakers will be used.

All equipment will be protected against overvoltage and provided with a set of microprocessor relay protection, which in real time can monitor the performance of the feeding centre and instantly react to the occurrence of abnormal situations.

The latest automated systems of communication, supervisory control, monitoring and metering of electricity will be installed at the facility. Transmission of telemetry information online will be provided with two independent channels of communication. Operational management of the substation will be made by an operator of the Grid Control Centre of Belgorodenergo without the involvement of any staff. This will significantly reduce the time of switching, turning off the equipment for repair and removing emergency conditions. To ensure the safety it is planned to install a perimeter alarm and video surveillance system.

The installation of energy-efficient infrared heaters and LED lighting for their utility needs will allow to significantly, more than 30%, to save energy resources. The energy-efficient infrared heaters replaced traditional convector and oil ones. They automatically control the temperature in technical rooms, keeping it at the optimum level, and save heating costs. This year Belgorodenergo plans to install infrared heaters at seven substations undergoing a comprehensive upgrade program to improve reliability.

The power engineers plan to complete the construction of the substation «Kreida» at the end of 2014.
