“Rosseti Centre Orelenergo” in the first half of this year prevented 72 cases of energy theft

14.07.2020

“Rosseti Centre Orelenergo” conducts a systematic struggle to prevent and detect electricity theft. For this purpose, a subdivision, the Inspection Control Group, was created as part of the branch’s security department, which included workers from the security unit, the energy conservation and energy efficiency office.

For the first half of 2020, Orelenergo’s employees, including the inspection control group of the branch’s security department, in different districts of the region identified 72 cases of electricity theft with a total volume of more than 3.3 million kWh in the amount of 12.4 million rubles, which is comparable, for example, with the consumption of electricity by residents of the Orlovsky district for a month. The largest theft during this period was recorded in the Orlovsky district in the amount of 0.9 million kWh worth 3.0 million rubles.

For all identified cases, statements were prepared and sent to territorial police departments on bringing the violators to responsibility, provided for by the legislation of the Russian Federation.

Power engineers recall that the legislation provides for severe penalties for power thieves. In case of theft, the violator not only compensates for the damage to the electric grid company but is also held criminally or administratively liable with a fine. For individuals, the sanction is from 10 to 20 thousand rubles, for officials - from 30 to 80 thousand, for legal entities - from 100 to 200 thousand.

Conscientious consumers, who regularly pay electricity bills, suffer to a large extent from criminal actions of violators: because of theft, voltage drops in the grid, household appliances fail, and the likelihood of failures, fires and accidents increases.

Orelenergo appeals to residents of the region with a request not to use devices that can distort the actual consumption of electric energy, and to report known facts of energy theft by calling the hotline at 8-800-50-50-115, or by sending messages to +7 915-369-69-69 in Viber (all calls and messages are toll-free), as well as to their Distribution Zones.
