As part of the repair program, employees of “Rosseti Centre Lipetskenergo” are installing bird protection devices on overhead power lines. Since the beginning of the year, the power engineers have installed about 700 such devices.
The work is carried out on overhead lines (Conductors), which pose a high potential threat to birds due to the risk of electric shock. In the Lipetsk region, according to ornithologists, there are two of them - the 110 kV overhead lines “Usman” and “Donskaya”. Both lines are located in places of bird nesting and migration, and the “Donskaya” line also passes through the territory of the “Galichya Gora” Nature Reserve, where populations of rare birds of prey are restored.
The use of bird protection devices prevents the landing and nesting of birds on traverses and insulators, which ensures the conservation of bird populations and prevents the malfunctioning of power equipment caused by them. “According to statistics, on lines equipped with such systems, the number of technological disruptions arising from birds is reduced to zero,” commented First Deputy Director - Chief Engineer of Lipetskenergo Mikhail Boev.
In total, during the year, the power engineers will install 1,100 bird protection devices.
