Testing of a unique automatic transmission line monitoring system in Lipetskenergo successfully continues

23.03.2020

The next stage of testing of an advanced automated complex for diagnosis of overhead power lines constructed using UAV technologies was held at the branch “Rosseti Centre Lipetskenergo”.

During the tests, the aircraft overcame a distance of 30 km in automatic mode by collecting along the 110 kV “Dobroye” high-voltage line photo materials that will be further analyzed with special software for defect recognition. On return, the unused battery life was 30%, which in general allows it to be used to examine longer lines up to 50 km.

The drone, advanced by developers, significantly improved its flight performance. Now its battery life under negative temperatures with its working load weight of 1 kilogram is 1 hour and 15 minutes, which is an absolute record in relation to similar existing developments.

“Improving the characteristics of the UAV based on the results of all tests will create a unique complex for diagnosing the status of power lines with a large length under conditions of both low and high temperatures. One such device will replace the work of several crews of power engineers at once, which will accordingly be able to devote more time to the repair and construction of electric grid facilities,” stressed Mikhail Boev, deputy chief engineer for operation and head of the high-voltage grids department of the branch “Rosseti Centre Lipetskenergo”.
