Kurskenergo continues to fight against theft of electricity

18.03.2020

The branch “Rosseti Centre Kurskenergo” continues systematic work to identify and suppress non-metered and non-contractual electricity consumption.

Based on the results of the raid events conducted since the beginning of this year, the branch’s specialists have revealed 95 facts of energy theft in the amount of more than 550 thousand kWh for a total of about 1.5 million rubles. In all cases of the theft, acts of non-metered and non-contractual energy consumption were drawn up and applications were sent to law enforcement authorities to initiate cases of an administrative offense.

So, Kurskenergo’s employees stopped the fact of non-metered electricity consumption from the peasant farm in the Lgovsky region. The fact of interference in the operation of the metering device and understating the amount of electricity consumed was confirmed by broken seals. Now the consumer will have to compensate for the damage caused to the electric grid company in the amount of 400 thousand rubles.

The largest number of detected violations was committed by individuals, including in the Oboyansky, Kursky and Sudzhansky districts. Broken seals of state verification and the power grid organization, burned, twisted electrical tape contacts are a clear confirmation of outside interference and a reason for a thorough check with regard to consumers in the above districts. The volume of non-metered electricity consumption amounted to more than 150 kWh, in monetary terms more than 300 thousand rubles. Currently, the applicant’s materials have been sent to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia on each fact for a decision in accordance with the current legislation of the Russian Federation.

Please, be reminded that from 9 June 2019, amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation entered into force. Fines for double unauthorized connection to electric grids and for repeated unauthorized (non-metered) energy consumption doubled. Now a fine of 15 to 30 thousand rubles is imposed on citizens. In addition to tougher sanctions for individuals, the changes affected other categories of consumers. For repeated unauthorized connection to electric grids, as well as unauthorized (non-metered) use of electricity, officials will pay from 80 to 200 thousand rubles, or will be disqualified for a period of two to three years. Fines for organizations - from 200 to 300 thousand rubles.

Kurskenergo’s power engineers draw the attention of residents of the region to the fact that energy theft is one of the main causes of power surges and power outages. You can report facts of possible violations of the law by calling the round-the-clock hotline at 8-800-50-50-115, the call is toll-free.
