Measures of the energy conservation and energy efficiency program in 2019 allowed Smolenskenergo to save almost 5 million kWh

04.02.2020

In 2019, the branch “Rosseti Centre Smolenskenergo” fulfilled a large volume of planned measures for energy conservation and energy efficiency. The total effect of implementation of the energy conservation and energy efficiency program amounted to 4,992 thousand kWh, which exceeded the expected results by 23%.

Smolensk power engineers carried out technical and organizational measures aimed at reducing electric energy losses during transmission and optimizing the consumption of energy resources for utility needs of substations and household needs of buildings and structures of the branch.

Technical measures helped save 755 thousand kWh. Among them: replacing wires with a larger cross-section for overloaded power lines, replacing taps of overhead lines to residential buildings with self-supporting insulated wire (SIW), replacing transformers with energy-saving ones with reduced no-load losses under the program of technical re-equipment and reconstruction.

Effective organizational measures in 2019 were: disconnecting transformers in low-load modes at substations with two transformers and transformers with seasonal load, balancing phase loads in distribution networks of 0.38 kV and redistributing the load of the main grid through switching operations. The effect of these measures amounted to 2.188 million kWh.

The program of energy conservation and energy efficiency improvement also includes measures to optimize the consumption of energy resources for utility needs of substations and household needs of buildings and structures of the branch. Electricity consumption for auxiliary needs of substations last year was reduced by 1.51 million kWh compared to 2018, due to the optimization of the temperature mode in general substation control centres and indoor switchgears, as well as the separation of switch heating circuits for drives and oil switch tanks. The consumption of fuel and energy resources for administrative needs of the branch in the period under review was also reduced by 1,060 tons of fuel equivalent. In 2019, measures were taken aimed at saving fuel and energy resources and water for household needs (replacing lamps in lighting fixtures with LEDs in the amount of 1,060 pcs, monitoring the duration of the heating period of Distribution Zone bases, monthly monitoring of consumption limits for fuel and energy resources and water).

In addition, the branch achieved a reduction of 2.558 million kWh (16%) from the planned indicators of energy consumption for household needs and by 16% from the planned indicators - for utility needs of substations.

In the Smolensky Distribution Zone, on the basis of which the project “Digital Distribution Zone” is being implemented, by January 2020, 78% (711 pcs) of all lighting fixtures were replaced by LED ones. In 2019, 20 energy-efficient power transformers with reduced no-load losses were commissioned. As a result of the implementation of the measures of the energy saving program last year (replacing wires with a larger cross section for overloaded 0.4 kV lines, replacing taps in residential buildings with self-supporting insulated wire, turning off the transformer in low-load conditions at substations with two or more transformers, balancing phase loads in distribution networks of 0.38 kV), an effect of 41 thousand kWh was achieved. The consumption of fuel and energy resources for utility needs of the Distribution Zone was reduced by 88.6 tons of fuel equivalent (15%) compared to 2018. The savings in expenses for the utility needs of the Distribution Zone in 2019 amounted to 587 thousand rubles.
