Kurskenergo’s specialists held a lesson on electrical safety for children without parental care

21.10.2019

Employees of the branch “Rosseti Centre - Kurskenergo” conducted a lesson on prevention of electrical injuries for children of the regional educational institution “Verkhne Lyubazhskaya boarding school”. The lesson was held on the basis of Fatezhsky Distribution Zone of Kurskenergo. It was attended by 20 children aged 13 - 15 years.

As explained by the chief of the Distribution Zone Boris Shentsev, the main purpose of the lesson is to repeat and consolidate the safe behaviour skills of schoolchildren at home and in the street, which is especially important during holidays, when children have more time for games and walks.

A master of the Distribution Zone Vladimir Kryukov tried to make the lesson as open as possible for communication. Using visual materials, he told the children in detail what electricity is, how dangerous it is, what signs and posters warn about the danger of electric shock, how to behave near energy facilities. “Transformer substations, power lines are found in every street, in every yard,” Vladimir Kryukov explained to the children. “It should be remembered that these electrical installations are energized, so it’s strictly forbidden to approach them, climb poles of power lines and transformer substations, take selfies on them, and even more so to enter the territory of substations.”

And the schoolchildren saw in the film “Safe electricity” what terrible consequences elementary ignorance of the rules of electrical safety can lead to and their violation.

The theme of the danger of electric shock was continued by Yury Belov, an inspector for minors of the inter-municipal department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs “Fatezhsky”. He told the teenagers about the tragedy that happened not so long ago in Rylsky district, when a group of students from an agricultural college neglected electrical safety rules and climbed a 110 kV overhead line to take a selfie. One of the guys, when descending from the pole, approached at an unacceptable distance the phase “A” wire and was mortally shocked. Yury Belov also reminded of the sad “experience” of one of pupils of a boarding school who tried to cut wires from a power line and received electric injuries with serious health consequences.

The energy safety lesson was continued at the 110 kV “Fatezh” substation, where Gennady Chevychelov, the chief engineer of the Distribution Zone, talked about the power facility supplying electricity to the city of Fatezh and settlements around it, about its reconstruction using new technologies, about clothes and tools that protect power engineers during operation. Thus, the schoolchildren were able to see firsthand the energy facilities, which were described earlier, to learn a lot of useful information.

At the end of the meeting, the power engineers handed out bookmarks, lesson schedules and colouring books to everyone present. All printing products contain the rules for the safe handling of electricity and will serve the children well in class.

Kurskenergo’s specialists conduct work on the prevention of children’s injuries, including at facilities of the electric grid complex, throughout the school year as part of a comprehensive program for prevention of injuries to third parties at Rosseti Centre’s facilities. In the months remaining until the end of the year, more than 1,500 children will participate in electrical safety lessons.
