A smart metering system helps save on energy bills

21.10.2019

The branch “Rosseti Centre Lipetskenergo” installed 17 thousand smart meters in the region, by the end of the year this figure will increase to 22 thousand. Calculations show that the amounts in electricity bills of consumers are reduced several times.

In seven districts of the Lipetsk region, the company Rosseti Centre is installing a smart metering system. Split meters show the amount of electricity consumed, power, voltage. The energy company and consumers see all this information in real time.

An analysis of the data shows that electricity bills of residents of the region are reduced several times. So, a resident of the village of Varvarinka in Lipetsky district before installing the “Phobos” meter paid monthly about 200 kWh according to the standard, after installing the modern meter, he began to pay 50 kWh. In accordance with the current tariff, the consumer saves about 385 rubles every month.

“The consumer’s savings appear after switching from a single-rate tariff to a differentiated tariff for two zones of the day (day/night), and also after switching from payment according to the standard to billings based on meter readings. There are two or three such examples on each street,” said Sergey Vetrov, the deputy director for sale and development of services of the branch “Rosseti Centre Lipetskenergo”.

The costs of installing the metering devices, the purchase of remote controls are borne by Lipetskenergo, no additional costs are required from residents. Residents of the Lipetsk region, who have a smart meter installed, are exempted from the obligation to verify the meter, as they will now be operated by Lipetskenergo. In addition, the power engineers take on their own and very quickly restore the metering device in the event of a possible failure.

Also, in the list of advantages of split meters the power engineers call the convenience of taking readings - the meter does this automatically. This is guaranteed to protect consumers from high charges in the bill due to errors in the transmission of readings.
