In preparation for winter Smolenskenergo took part in large-scale exercises in the region

In the Smolensk region, comprehensive special exercises were held on the topic “Ensuring the security of electricity and heat supply to consumers of the Central Federal District during the course of the autumn-winter period of 2019-2020 by electric power entities”. The event was attended by employees of the branch “Rosseti Centre Smolenskenergo”, the Department of Energy, Energy Efficiency, Tariff Policy of the Smolensk region, a branch of PJSC Quadra - Smolensk Generation, Municipal Unitary Enterprise “Smolenskteploset”, executive authorities, the Russian Ministry of Emergencies in the Smolensk region, municipal organizations.

According to the legend of the exercises as a result of adverse weather events: wind of 3-5 m/s, temperature drop to -24°C, there was a disruption in heat supply, resulting in a sharp increase in electricity consumption at power centres in Zadneprovsky district of the city of Smolensk. As a result of exceeding the permissible load, damage occurred to a transformer of the branch “Rosseti Centre Smolenskenergo” and a 6 kV circuit breaker at a departmental transformer substation. During the development of the emergency situation, 9,500 residential consumers were left without electricity.

The exercises were held in 2 stages. At the first one, the work of Smolenskenergo was organized to eliminate technological violations in the operation of the electric grid complex with the involvement of additional forces and means, a special mode of operation was introduced.

At the second stage, practical actions were performed to carry out emergency recovery operations using backup sources of electricity supply to restore power to the de-energized consumers, and measures were taken to eliminate technological violations by the forces and means of Smolenskenergo, interaction with the regional headquarters to ensure the security of power supply to the consumers of the Smolensk region.

The exercises showed a high degree of preparedness of Smolenskenergo’s employees to deal with emergencies in adverse weather conditions. The staff is ready to provide high reliability of power supply to the consumers.
