Rosseti Centre Belgorodenergo is implementing a pilot project on QR coding of information about the branch’s power facilities constructed as part of the digital transformation program for the region’s electric grid complex.
Labels with a QR code are placed on the equipment and contain links to resources with information on technical specifications, connection diagrams, production instructions and other regulatory documents. At least 20 QR codes have already been generated, during the scanning of which by a mobile device the embedded software offers the user to click on a link to a specialized web portal containing a list of operational and maintenance documentation.
According to Belgorodenergo’s specialists, the new method of obtaining information has several advantages. Firstly, it allows you to easily, quickly and accurately identify any device, secondly, it is characterized by ease of placement - key data is always at hand, and finally, it is read by any mobile devices, including a partially damaged QR code. So, all the data on the innovative equipment of the first 35 kV digital substation “Nikolskoye” and the “smart” outdoor lighting poles with a set of smart devices are placed on special plates fixed to the structural components of the equipment.
In the future, the specialists plan to finalize the methodology for the use of information QR codes, having developed a solution for entering the current equipment parameters and detected defects into a single database in SAP, as well as expanding the possibilities of using a QR code for automatic document database maintenance.

The abbreviation QR (quick response) in translation from English means “fast response”. A two-dimensional barcode allows you to place 2,953 bytes of information in one small square, that is, 7,089 digits or 4,296 letters (about 1-2 pages of text in A4 format). Using QR, more information is encoded than the usual barcode, and personal devices with the installed code reader can be used for decoding. To decode information, the smartphone camera must be brought to the image for a few seconds. The program will decrypt, and then offer to perform a specific action provided by the contents of the code.
