More than 600 children took part in Smolenskenergo’s electrical safety lessons during the summer holidays

04.09.2019

The branch “Rosseti Centre Smolenskenergo” summed up the results of work on prevention of children’s electrical injuries during the summer school holidays. In total, during the summer months, 11 classes on electrical safety were held in suburban summer camps and on school grounds of Yartsevsky, Safonovsky, Roslavlsky, Shumyachsky, Kholm-Zhirkovsky districts of the Smolensk region, as well as the city of Smolensk. More than 600 children were able to repeat the rules of electrical safety together with power engineers.

In the classroom, the children got acquainted with the electrical safety rules and the meaning of warning signs installed on electrical equipment, learned how to behave in emergency situations and provide first aid to victims of exposure to electric current.

Experience shows that this practice is effective. Gaining visual knowledge about the subject, children are much more likely to begin to think about the consequences of their actions, and also behave more carefully. “Children and adolescents are not always able to fully assess the degree of danger of power facilities and electrical appliances. As a result, ignorance of the basics of electrical safety can cause a tragedy. We once again draw attention to this problem, teach children, and, in principle, adults, the rules for handling electricity and electrical appliances,” stressed Sergey Mikhailov, the head of Smolenskenergo’s labour protection service.

With the onset of the school year, work on the prevention of children’s electrical injuries will continue in educational institutions of the Smolensk region.
