Smolenskenergo spent about 2.6 million rubles to ensure environmentally friendly production in the first half of 2019

Over the past 6 months of 2019, the branch “Rosseti Centre Smolenskenergo” allocated almost 2.6 million rubles to implement environmental policy measures of the company. The main tasks in the implementation of the environmental programs of the branch for the first half of this year were: monitoring compliance with environmental laws in the structural subdivisions of the branch; organization of complete primary accounting of waste and keeping of logs of accounting for formation and movement of waste; conclusion of contracts for organized car washes; transfer of mercury-containing lamps, worn-out tires and used office equipment to specialized licensed organizations for the purpose of neutralizing and disposing of these wastes; conducting industrial environmental control.

In addition, Smolenskenergo held an event to protect the wildlife - in the first half of the year 1,999 bird protection devices were installed. The purpose of the measures taken by Smolenskenergo’s power engineers is to protect birds during the operation of power lines, and to preserve biological diversity in the region.

An equally important area for ensuring the safety of wildlife is the use of self-supporting insulated wires in construction, reconstruction of high-voltage lines, as well as connecting new customers. In the first half of the year, 98.9 km of 0.4-10 kV overhead power lines were reconstructed with replacement of bare wire with self-supporting insulated one (SIW). This work not only ensures the safety of the animal world, but also improve the reliability of the energy system and reduce the clearing area.

In order to improve staff skills in the field of environmental protection, 33 Smolenskenergo’s employees underwent training under the program “Professional training for people to work with hazardous waste” in the private institution of continuing professional education “Training Centre” Occupational Safety Profession”. The number of trainees included chiefs and chief engineers of Distribution Zone, foremen of crews, masters of vehicle repair, environmental protection engineers and other categories of personnel.

Ensuring the environmental safety of production activities, rationally using natural energy resources, the branch contributes to improving the overall environmental safety of the region.
