14 students from the Yaroslavl Automechanical College and the Rostov College of Industry Technologies are working at the branch “Rosseti Centre Yarenergo” as part of the sixth season of student construction crews. As part of the existing crews, the students carry out earthwork for laying cable lines, paint power facilities and update dispatcher names, participate in the inspection of power lines, and locate fault in them.
The members of the construction crews were distributed in three Distribution Zones: Yaroslavsky, Rostovsky and “Yargorelectroset”. In the first weeks of their labour activity, the construction crew members managed to prepare 0.6 km of trenches for laying cable lines, apply dispatcher names to 70 poles of 0.4-10 kV overhead lines and took part in the scheduled maintenance of seven transformer substations. Being close to experienced workers, the young specialists learn a lot about their future specialty directly in practice. The power engineers explain and tell the students about the intricacies of the profession, pay attention to inconspicuous at first glance, but important points.
“I worked with crews for operation of cable lines, overhead lines and substation service crews. I dug trenches, located fault in an overhead power line and watched over the repair of the line, monitored how the substation is serviced,” said Egor Ermolaev, the commander of one of the crews, a 3rd year student at the Yaroslavl Automechanical College, specializing in the technical operation and maintenance of electrical and electromechanical equipment. “It is important for me that I can get practical knowledge and see how the work is done. For example, the installation of cable sleeves. It depends on the type of cable and the type of insulation, how to install them, which tools to use.”
Before starting work, the student crews passed training and exams for the 2nd group of electrical safety, attended practical classes on the preparation of certificates of instrumental verification of the state of the scheme for measuring electrical energy. For introduction to the profession, a tour to the 110 kV “Severnaya” substation was organized for them, and representatives of the branch’s youth council spoke about the benefits for young employees. The working season for the future power engineers will last until 15 August of this year.
